5.0 out of 5 stars Soviet Carnage=Funtastic Good Times November 17, 2004
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is one of the greatest games I've ever played. It's the whole package--beautiful visuals, great music, interesting premise, unique gameplay, and mostly it's freakin' fun. Every time I beat the game, I immediately commence a new game. I'm still not tired of it. The only complaints I have are the lame dialogues, friendly interference (dudes be steppin' in front of you while you're trying to snipe dirty Reds), and lack of a sequel.

If you like 3rd-person shooters, you'll love this game. If you wish the Cold War were still going, you probably need to get over it, but you'll also enjoy this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quiet Classic January 7, 2015
I think I've played through this game more than any other game. If any game needs a sequel it's definitely this one. There's so many great elements to this game it's really hard to cover them all and do each one justice so I'll try to touch on the three biggest elements of this game.

The squad-based tactics of this game really make it stand out and make it much more than a 3rd-person shooter. Giving orders to squad members is very simple and doesn't add an excessive amount of visual cues [to the HUD] or hotkeys that need to be remembered. Your squad probably won't be able to win every firefight for you but they can provide good defense/distraction if you're trying to flank the enemy or if you run into a bottleneck situation. It also provides a good challenge of managing your squad properly so they're a benefit rather than a hindrance. Very rarely is their A.I. frustratingly bad. At first you will only have one or two squad members but eventually you'll be in charge of a whole platoon and by that point you'll really need them.

A somewhat subtle element of this game that also make it amazing is the environmental effects of certain missions. You may have 3 or 4 missions to choose from, but depending on what order you tackle them in you could be in for an easy fight or a nearly impossible one. So if you blow up the helipad in one mission you won't have to deal with helicopters in another, or if you blow up a weapons depot in one mission there will be fewer machine gun nests in another. It's just really awesome how the difficulty of the game can drastically change based on the decisions you make.

Now while the story isn't exactly "award winning" I really think the Red Dawn-esque story really brought it all together.

the game was terribly scratched and its not even recognizable to my computer. I dont know why anyone would sell a product that doesn't even work. Very disappointing and will never buy anything from these people again.

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
As a longtime gamer I'm always looking for that little gem that slipped through the cracks. This is one of them. A first-person shooter, Freedom Fighters takes place in the United States during an invasion by the USSR. Desperate times bring forth unlikely heroes, and you play a plumber who becomes the last, best hope for the American resistance. It's got an interesting premise, good voice acting, solid graphics and sounds (for the time; it was released in 2003), and great playability. Also, since it's an older game, it will run on just about any P.C. sold today without any expensive upgrades. Grab it and go get those dirty Reds!
