2.0 out of 5 stars For young gamers
It took me about 3 days to finish this game on the highest difficulty. I since traded it in. There is little challenge to it. If your looking for a descent rental, this is it. If you like the movie "Red Dawn", you will enjoy this because it is nearly a complete ripoff of it.

+good control and easy team commands
+par graphics and sound for Xbox...

I was a little hesitant to pick up this title. The name had changed several times and they pushed the game back all the way up to the release. For instance it was supposed to be released in the end of Sept but it was pushed back till Oct for some reason. I heard some mixed reviews about the game so I almost didn't buy it. But I'm glad I changed my mind. I have had a blast playing this game. Honestly my only major complaint is that I want more. It just seems that if they added just a touch more than this game would be one of the top games to get for the xbox. The multiplayer aspect is fun but if they really need to add at least three more maps. Also some variations on the objectives instead of only playing their version of capture the flag. This game is screaming for xbox live support. The maps could've been downloadable content. But it seems that microsoft and EA can never play nice when it comes to xbox live. Other than my couple of complaints this game is a lot of fun. I like switching between areas to complete various objectives such as blowing up helicopters and destroying bridges. Which makes other missions easier. I do have another complaint in the mini objectives though. There should be a variety to the mini objectives instead of the same three over and over. Instead they just increase the number of objectives. So in one mission you may have to blow up a bridge. Then in the second mission you have to blow up two bridges or three bridges. And there always seems to be a helipad to blow up too. A larger variety in weapons would be nice as well. Sure there are rocket launchers but if you have one then you don't have a machine gun. And if you find a sub machine gun then good luck finding enough ammo. So you end up just using the assault rifle 95% of the time. All of this would have really helped this game but its still a ton of fun. It will definitely keep you busy until the big releases of the year start coming out in late oct through the holiday season.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully simple, May 1, 2005

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
This game has alot of fun elements. Both the single player and multiplayer I enjoyed.

Graphics: The graphics are good. They border on cell-shading.

Sound: Again, it's good. The people will say some funny things to you like "I'm not your huckleberry" when you try to recruit them without enough spots on your squad.

Camera View: 3rd person. It's easy to move around with it, no complaints.

Weapons: On multiplayers the soviets get grenades, pistol, and an ak-47; Americans get rebel weapons like molotov cocktails, pistol, and a shotgun. Other guns you get are a rocket launcher, sniper rifle, gun turrets, and flamethrower.

Single Player: I have always liked movies like 'Red Dawn' that dealt with the Soviets invading us and I was pretty satisfied with the plot. Not much strategy is needed on the levels on easy but on higher difficulties you do. The cut scenes are interesting.

Multiplayer: Some people who reviewed this game didn't think much of the multiplayer, but I really enjoyed it. Some flaws are that there are only three levels, taking over bunkers doesn't always work right, and three player multiplayer is always a lopsided fight no matter who is fighting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game!, July 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
This game is very fun. I like it so much! Here's some more detail about it:

Graphics: 5 out of 5

The graphics are simply amazing. Character models look great, the weather effects are great, the explosions and bullet impacts look spectacular. This is one pretty game.

Sound: 5 out of 5

The sound is wonderful! The voice acting is great, the explosion sounds are great, the guns sound spectacular, and the russians speak with a real accent. (And I think the real language, but i don't speak russian)

Gameplay: 5 out of 5

You recruit guys and fight a guerrilla war through the streets of New York. It is very fun. You can recruit from 1 to 12 guys depending on how many charisma circles you have. You get those by filling up your charisma bar. You fill up your charsima bar by completing objectives, destroying targets, and healing civilians. You can also heal fellow freedom fighters and get them to fight for you. You can even heal wounded-and-left-for-dead russians and they will fight for you! The battles are also spectacular and intense. You have 2 to 5 levels in a mission (bureau of NYC) and there are about 9 or so missions (bureaus including governor's island). You can do the bureau levels in any order. What you do in one mission affects the next. For example, if you do the harbor before the fire station, there will be no enemy attack helecopter to kill you because you destroyed the helipad in the harbor. However, if you do the fire station first, there will be one. There are also sewage wells throughout the levels (about 4), so you can go to a different level before completing it.

Lengthetivity: 5 out of 5

This is a challenging game. However, all four difficulty levels are easy except the fourth. The fourth is semi-hard, but it is not impossible. This has a good lengthetivity. It is fun, so you'll play this for a long time.

Multiplayer: 4 out of 5

Very fun, however there are two drawbacks: 1)There are only three levels and 2)There is only one game mode. The mode is take over the flag. You get bunkers for your army and go take over the flag. You could also make this mode into your creative modes, such as kill the other player, take over the bunkers, or big battle (you don't have to play by the rules of the game mode). This is extremely fun to play with friends or family, but don't buy this game for multiplayer alone. (the single player is great, too.)

Average: 5 out of 5

Rent or Buy?

Buy. Definitly. This game is one of the best games ever. A must-have.

Pros:

1. Awsome graphics
2. Awsome sound
3. Challenging
4. Good Idea
5. Spectacular gameplay
6. Good music
7. Extremely fun

Cons:

1. There could've been a better save system
2. There could've been more multiplayer

If you are an action fan you must have this game. If you are alive you must have this game. Buy it immediatly! It is a must-have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly great game at a budget price!, June 25, 2004
This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
I usually am a game snob, I only get into the "big blockbuster" games that are the best of the best, things like Splinter Cell, Halo, etc...but at Freedom Fighters new sub-20 dollar price, I decided to give it a try while waiting for Shellshock to release - and I am glad I did!
Another reviewer was right, this game could be called Red Dawn. The premise is that the Russians have invaded New York, and you decide to start kicking butt and taking names. I won't go into the story, but in between game play is a highly entertaining story going on, that adds a lot to the gameplay.
The variety of weapons, and the quest to gain "charisma" so you can have more troops with you, is very cool. The controls take some getting used to, but once you have played for a few hours they became a real pleasure (i play with the "big" xbox controller). Great fighting, non-stop (really!) action, and since you don't get a ton of troops helping you until later in the game it just keeps getting better.
One thing that most surprised me was the great music and really good graphics. The music is perfect for this game, just the right amount of Russian music and it really blends into the game well. The graphics are nice, too. Even when fighting DOZENS of Russians with 12 troops of my own the frame rate never stuttered.

Overall, I give it 5 stars because of the price now and the FUN factor! If it was 50 bucks I would probably give it a 3.75 stars, but at 20 bucks or less pick it up if you enjoy shooters/military games/or love the movie Red Dawn and watched it relentlessly as a kid like I did! A nice surprise for the Xbox!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Dead Than Red, January 4, 2004

This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
I'll start off by saying that this is a very enjoyable game. From start to finish the story pulls you in and the gameplay is just great. The voice acting is some of the best I've heard in a long time. I will also agree with the reviewer that says you will actually care about the characters and what happens to them. The only poblem with this premise is that you do not connect with your recruits, just the main characters. The gameplay is good, the characters reminded me a lot of the pedestrians from State of Emergency. Along with the gameplay is the problem of commanding your recruits. Pretty much all that there is is hold position and follow. With games like Conflict: Desert Storm, you would think that developers would make it more in depth and be able to better control your fellow 'uprisers.' A really cool thing is how the lead character changes as the game progresses and according to the weather. In the beginning he is a clean cut plumber, at the end he's got long scraggly (is that a word?) hair and his clothes actually make you think he lives underground scavenging clothes. Sorry, I guess I'm getting a little too indepth. All in all it's a fun and enjoyable experience. I beat it within a week.

I bought this game on sunday, 10/5/03. I am playing through the single player campaign right now. It is pure genius!!! The plot is deep and one you may actually care about, a bit. The recruit and command function is greatly done, and so is the charisma system. The multiplayer is awesome, the only drawback is not having LIVE, at least system link (yes, I bought it for XBOX). If it had that, this would make a great game complete. This is fun and the graphics are superb. I love this game and recommend it to you. Even beginner action gamers will enjoy the simplistic controls, nonstop action, and fluent gameplay. There, now would you like Freedom Fighters as a game permenant in your game library?

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most underated games of all time, June 5, 2006
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
Just about everything that freedom fighters does in does right. From the exciting story to the suberb gameplay and some of the best music to ever grace a game. First of all Freedom Fighters is underated and underappriciated. It didn't sell that well and that it a terrible shame because this is a game that should be experianced by all. I mean your hooked from the start and it just gets better and better. First of all the squad controls are excellant and easy to use no matter how many soldiers you have and eventually you'll have 12 soldiers under your command. Your squadmates are very intelligent, along with the enemy soldiers, exhibit some of the most impressive a.i. seen in game. The 3rd person shooting is handled well and the aiming system does take getting used to but eventually becomes simple enough. The graphics are very solid and the environments are all suberb and varied throughout the game. The character models are solid and the included ragdoll physics are again some of the best to grace a videogame. The weapon selection is a little lacking but not to big an issue. The music is absolutely suberb and always manages to keep you entralled in the game. From start to finish Freedom Fighters is a blast and easily one to keep playing. There is a multiplayer but it has only one mode that is fun but there simly needed to be more modes to play with. It sucks that it got low sales and that hurts the chances for a much needed sequel. But if ever a game deserved a sequel Freedom Fighters would be it. So if you have not played freedom fighters, do yourself a favor go pick it up, you won't regret, and hell it only costs like 10$ so what have you got to lose?

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, May 29, 2004

This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
funny, my amazone account recommended it, and I kept ignoring it.
I saw it at Toys R Us (...), and picked it up. I must mention I bought Red dead Revolver too(which I was really excited about). My friend and I ended up not putting this game down, and never touching Red Dead. It is the ultimate Red Dawn video game experience. The graphics are good, the music is really good, and the gameplay is just all around fun. I live in brooklyn, so the fact that it takes place there is even more amusing. Although we don't have a problem with Russians here.
Anyways, do yourself a favor. Get it. It's my new favorite game on the xbox as of now.

4.0 out of 5 stars lo does it again!!!!!!, January 8, 2005

This review is from: Freedom Fighters (Video Game)
the AI in this game is amazing. the men/women you recruit not only follow your orders, they are also highly intuitive- for example, they wont only stay in the area you send them, they will find cover, the will duck during heavy enemy fire, and will search out and destroy all enemies within a perimeter.
F.F.'s is so much more tactical than i thought it would be. i love sending out three of my team to one area and another three soldiers to another- it's just so COOL!
it took me a very long time to purchase this game. i pretty much figured that i'd just stay happy with lo interactive's (is it lo or io???) hitman series and not push my luck with some of their side projects- well 'luck' had it that i recently saw this game for $15 and said, "why not?" suffice it to say that i'm really surprised, and will now ALWAYS purchase games that lo interactive puts out.
the reason i'm not giving my overall score a five is because i have yet to play the multiplayer and judging by other people's reviews, it's not that great. although- the single player ROCKS far more than i ever thought possible so...
...i highly recommend this must-have title!!!!!!
