The Hybrid Lights- a patented flashlight that works off two independent power sources, battery power or shake power. Each flashlight ships in the off power position, click the on button one time and the flashlight's power source is two 3 volt lithium batteries that come with the flashlight. These batteries will power the LED light for many hours and can easily be replaced by unscrewing the lens and removing the power sleeve inside the flashlight body. Click the on button again and the flashlight is on the self-charging power source. This power source requires the user to shake the flashlight for about 30 to 40 seconds to charge the capacitor that stores the electromagnetic energy. Once the capacitor is fully charged the flashlight will operate for 4 to 6 minutes before the capacitor requires recharging. In order to use the self charging power source the flashlight must either be turned to the off position or turned to the battery position in order to charge the capacitor. The first time this flashlight is used under the shake power source it may require an additional 30 or 40 seconds of shaking to activate the capacitor. The Hybrid Light will work in any weather conditions regardless of how hot or cold it is. The capacitor can be recharged over 100,000 times. The Hybrid light is waterproof and it floats. The flashlight does work if you shake it continually for a few minutes (more than two, preferably three to five), but the light isn't all that strong. If you just need a small amount of light, say to find a key or something that does not require a strong light, the flashlight is fine. It does have a regular battery you can use, but even then the light isn't all that strong. I opted to keep mine in the car as heat (summer especially) can kill batteries, but at least with this flashlight you have a good backup plan (just shake).
