Distinctive and unforgettable,

This review is from: Freedom for the Funk (Audio CD)
This disc is a greatest hits collection of Lee Dorsey, one of the most distinctive voices in the r & b universe (with a dash of funk for good measure). I was first introduced to Lee Dorsey when my brother bought the new edition of his album "Yes We Can" based on a brief mention of respect in the Beastie Boys' single "Sureshot". My brother brought it on our two-week trip around the eastern half of the United States and needless to say I got to hear it a couple of times. Songs such as "Yes We Can", "Lonely Avenue" and "Sneaking Sally Through the Alley" became unforgetable. Unfortunately, that album was on Polydor records, which no longer exists in the U.S. Many of the songs on that album (but not "Lonely Avenue") appear on this compilation, which is a fine sampling of Lee Dorsey's entire career. Hey, if the Beasties liked him, you should too.
