First a disclaimer: I have known Rinaldo Brutoco, one of the book's co-authors, for a number of years, consider him to be a personal friend, and likely would not have picked up this book were it not for this fact. But if I had not liked his book, I would have remained silent for these same reasons.

The fact is, I think Brown, Brutoco and Cusumano, the book's co-authors, have written a vitally important and compelling treatise concerning energy, national security and global climate change. Their book masterfully weaves these subjects in such a way to present a realistic view of our present challenges and an optimistic view of our possibilities if we pay attention and aggressively create positive action.

Liberal, conservative, producer, consumer, entrepreneur, elected official, corporate executive, homemaker, professional scientist, or barely passed high school science class. Everyone should read this book. Inside it is an easy to understand, step-by-step cogent explanation for how economic forces, environmental considerations, geopolitical pressures, and the natural urge we human beings have to create a better life for ourselves and our children, compel us to free ourselves of fossil fuel dependence.

But more than a clarion call of crisis if we fail to act, the book lays out a plan for rapidly commercializing renewable energy systems and extending them around the planet. The authors write: "Those few who truly understand the current situation will do their utmost to see that the world stops using fossil fuels ... and reconstruct our economic system on renewable energy." Until I read this book, I heard these words but did not truly understand why or what I could do to make a difference.

This is the first time I have written an Amazon book review, and I do so in the hope that many others will come to a similar appreciation because out of this, we can create and have a brighter future. And that certainly is a worthwhile reason to read the book and share it with others.

Worth reading through. Loses some focus at the end, but overall gets the idea across about oil, national security and how we fix the problem using existing technology. The efforts required are only a dent compared to what America experinced in the Cold War Space Race. [The fact that GW (as we speak) is pleading with the Saudis to increaase production speaks volumes aboout this book's premise.] Global warming is thankfully only highlighted and not droned upon.

I consider myself a socially moderate fiscal conservative - Somehow the subject of oil and national security has not become a subject of either party's debate topic list - it should be.

I recommend that anyone interested in knowing the real facts about the history of oil, what is happening in the oil industry today, and in particular the Middle East's involvement should read "Freedom from Mid-East Oil." The book is so well written it should become a mandatory text book for high schools and colleges."
