5.0 out of 5 stars It's a miracle worker!, June 27, 2004

This review is from: Freedom PF Night Splint II - Relieves the Pain of Plantar Fasciitis - Medium (Health and Beauty)
After living with the toruous pain of plantar fasciitis for over a year, a friend loaned me Freedom Night Splint and begged me to give it a try. I did - and despite the look of the thing, it was pretty comfortable. The soft terry lining is especially nice. And best of all - I felt relief from the plantar fasciitis pain after the first night! Not healed, mind you, but a good deal better.

My doctor gave me a prescription for a splint of my own, but the local pharmacy doesn't carry this particular splint. Oh well, I figured, a splint is a splint. I used my new splint for a few weeks and noticed my foot was hurting again! Sometimes I would wake in the middle of the night with my heal/ankle hurting and have to remove the splint! the nasty synthetic fabric the liner is made out of is hot and uncomfortable. My heal felt like it wasn't getting any better at all and as a matter of fact it was hurting in a different spot. The next morning I noticed my heal had been rubbed nearly open from the splint!!

Needless to say, I reborrowed my friends Freedom splint, and again, after one night - RELIEF! I'm throwing away the other (and incidentally, more expensive) splint and buying my own Freedom Splint NOW!!!

I bought 2 other night splint models before finding this one. The first was the Thermoskin Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint. Thermoskin Plantar FXT, Beige, Small This gadget was terrible! Made my toes hurt. I did not last one night. Waste of money. My next night splint was from Futuro. Futuro Plantar Fasciitis Sleep Support This was better. It actually helped. But it only works if you have it tight around your calf and toes. Which then made it uncomfortable. Finally, I found this night splint. The difference is that for the Futuro, or any of the "dorsal" night splint versions, two points need to be tight in order for the splint to be effective. One point being the toe area, the other point being the calf area. For the Freedom PF Night Splint II, only the strap around the heel needs to be tight. The straps around the toes and calf can be loose (which is so much better). And yet the splint is effective. Since the heel strap needs to be tight, I insert extra padding (for example a thick sock) to add more cushion to the strap, before tightening it for effect.

Regular use of this night splint, plus regular calf stretching several times a day (before going to bed, and upon rising in the morning) finally resolved my plantar fasciitis (over about a 3-month period).
