Isolationism is not the way.....nor is hating your country. This guy will never have my vote or enough votes to ever make a bit of difference. The only thing worse than Paul's foreign policy are his followers actions...they make people who otherwise wouldn't care about the guy to be vocal against him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brief introduction to liberty, November 17, 2007
By
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
Freedom Under Siege offers the reader a quick glimpse of Dr. Paul's view of the prevailing attitude of the United States towards individual liberty. In it, Ron Paul makes the argument that the philosophical underpinnings of liberty have eroded during the 20th century and only a revamped understanding of natural rights can turn the tide of the increasing totalitarian state. Dr. Paul highlights just a few of the hypocritical dogmas that plague a free society, such as forced military conscription to preserve liberty and the debasement of currency to stimulate economic growth. This book does an excellent job of introducing the reader to some of the foundations of libertarianism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just finished, April 29, 2008
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
I just finished this one today after reading 'The Revolution: A Manifesto' This was just as good. Written over 20 years ago it gives an excellent example of just how completely consistent Ron Paul is.

If this book had been read by the masses in 1988, many of the problems we face today could have been at the least minimized or quite possibly even fixed by now.

It reads well and is hard to put down until you get to the chapter on economics.

I realized while reading the economics chapter that because the subject is frankly dull, we have for too long ignored it and trusted that others know how to run the economy.

I understand now that they do. They know exactly how to transfer wealth to themselves and keep us in the dark.

I read the whole chapter again, you should too.

If you can only get one book, get 'The Revolution: A Manifesto'. I promise after reading it you will be back to get the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Paul's book is simply outstanding, March 16, 2008
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
Anyone familiar with Ron Paul knows that he is a staunch supporter of the Constitution and the rights of the people. Sadly, he is a dying breed in our government. In his book, Freedom Under Siege, he simply destroys arguments for big government and shows how whether you are a Democrat or Republican, you probably have been fooled into supporting unconstitutional policies with little backing historically. What amazes me most is that Dr. Paul's logic and understanding of our nation's history is so complete. If you like reading about controversial topics in America today and need some grounding historically in these areas, such as the Draft or Welfare, then buy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good primer for Ron Paul's Manifesto, April 6, 2008
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
My favorite RP book to date, this 1987 essay defines Individual Rights (life, liberty and property), how the Constitution was designed to protect them, and how our corrupted government is taking them away. How? By taxation, inflation, land confiscation, by generally exceeding its enumerated powers and (in the past) military conscription.

The Individual's rights section is excellent, laying out the libertarian view of the proper (minimalist) role of government in a free society, 'moral law' as opposed to 'legislating morality,' and how a free society is superior to others (socialism, communism, fascism, etc). Dr Paul also describes how collectivism (group think) has contributed to the erosion of these rights.

Reading this book should bring the reader up to speed for his new Manifesto! It lays the foundation for all of his current policies, including honest money, a truly free market and re-establishing a small, transparent Constitutional government.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ron Paul: Lover of Liberty, November 13, 2008
By
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
This book was written in the late 1980's, but it could have been wriiten yesterday and you couldn't tell the difference. Everything he discusses is still very relevant, perhaps even more so now. His book "Revolution: A Manifesto" was an easy read, a begginers introduction to liberty, if you will. "Freedom Under Seige" has a lot more substance. This books also sees Dr. Paul discussing issues that you do not hear him discuss near enough. He usually discusses monetary policy and foreign policy, and is always dead on with his views on these subject. he discusses these topics in "Freedom Under Seige as well, but He also discuss many other constitutional issues like conscription and gun control. Ron Paul is a true patriot. His books should be required reading in school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ron Paul, July 9, 2009

Ron Paul ...explains why he is against the fed against interventionism and this in some ways I like some of his earlier works like this compared to the one he had out when he ran for president.

In any case all of Ron Paul's books need to be read.
Anti war -anti fed and fiat money anti bail out ...Pro Thomas Jefferson.

"Cliches about supporting the troops are designed to distract from failed policies, policies promoted by powerful special interests that benefit from war, anything to steer the discussion away from the real reasons the war in Iraq will not end anytime soon."

I am absolutely opposed to a national ID card. This is a total contradiction of what a free society is all about. The purpose of government is to protect the secrecy and the privacy of all individuals, not the secrecy of government. We don't need a national ID card.
Ron Paul

I am just absolutely convinced that the best formula for giving us peace and preserving the American way of life is freedom, limited government, and minding our own business overseas.
Ron Paul

Ron Paul also introduces the reader to the intersting writing and philoosphy of Ludwig Heinrich Edler von Mises.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Every American, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
The book was written more than 20 years ago and shows just how the future has shaped up as predicted by the author. Dr. Paul's writing style is entertaining and informative, making the topic more interesting for those who are not into politics. Dr. Paul makes a common sense argument in support of individual liberty and the Constitution that anyone would be hard pressed to argue with. Regardless of your political affiliations, every American should at least hear the arguments laid out in this easy to read and thoughtful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Accurate, January 20, 2012
This review is from: Freedom Under Siege (Paperback)
Written in 1988, this book is a scathing review of how the liberal and neo-con establishment has damaged the Constitution. I read this book a few years ago, right before the economic crisis hit, and the events that unfolded seemed to come alive from the pages in strikingly accurate ways.

Anyone who wants to understand traditional conservative beliefs, this is a must read.

One of Paul's earlier books, the style is a little awkward, but the contents make it worth the while.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7 fake reviews in a day?, January 26, 2012

Amazing how many bad reviews show up all in a single day, sounds like free republic has it's marching orders to go around bad mouthing him in any place they can find. All of you doing this make weak arguments built up from a strawman POV. You don't review the book after having read it you just say you did or you don't even go that far. This book was very forward thinking and a warning that we would wind up with a crazy debt ridden out of control insane government, and he said this much so in 1988, way ahead of this moment in time, but he could already see what was coming. the only people that would dispute this are just disinfo agents and others with agenda's to grind. If you don't like freedom for the world then you probably hate Ron Paul. If you like adultry and media controlled by Bain capital MSNBC and clear channel or the Audacity of Hype then you probably hate Ron Paul's solutions. But most likely, if you fall in to any of those categories you likely don't understand Austrian economics, nor a policy of peace and prosperity because all you have been told maybe to fear those against war and welfare for the rich and poor, as if they have nothing to do with our current mess. Thanks to the federal reserve we have massive student debt, mortgage foreclosures, wars overseas, etc. All of these problems stem from a primary cause of letting the Fed set interest rates at zero and pumping money into the economy both physical and digital that then gets thrown into the stock markets chasing investments for profits, only the loses are being subsidized by those that don't benefit from the profits, it's a scam and a lie and has to come to an end. Ron Paul has been right and will be shown to have been correct when the history books are written and the rest that ignored him will be known as the real losers of freedom and liberty, cause in the end you exchanged them for security and economic debt slavery and were proud of being a fool about it, as if you won some kind of reward for ruining not just you lives but those around you that tried to warn you and tell you about the problems.
