5.0 out of 5 stars A WORK OF GENIUS, May 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Freedomland - Acting Edition (Paperback)
This is one of the best plays written by an American in the last 20 years -- an extremely funny family play that also serves as an encapsulation of the philosophical strains which dominated American life in the late 20th century. Like Shaw's HEARTBREAK HOUSE, it shows old ways of thinking that were about to be extinguished in the coming century. But Shaw's 19th century critique was written in 1920. Freed had to pierce the twentieth century fog in order to create this brilliant work . . . one which, in time, will be regarded as one of the seminal works of 21st century theater.
