Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Sorenson rushes back into romantic suspense with this tale set in a California wilderness area. Olympic star Sam Rutherford, last seen comatose, clutching his fiancée’s ashes, has regained consciousness but not his memories prior to the freeway collapse in Aftershock (2013). He’s become a recluse in Sierra National Park, but unfortunately doesn’t know anything that will be helpful to ranger Hope Banning when a plane crashes on a remote mountain top. Hope’s sister, Faith, is visiting, and they planned to go whitewater rafting together. Hope is reluctant to let Faith, who isn’t an outdoorsy person, go alone on the trip, but she has no choice. When Hope gets to the crash site, she’s dismayed to find the pilot shot to death and a stash of drugs. Meanwhile, the rafting group gains a new member. Fearing that this man is the killer, Hope and Sam race to save Faith. Sorenson’s latest headlong wilderness adventure will make readers’ hearts race again. --Pat Henshaw

Olympic athlete Sam Rutherford was climbing Valhalla at night when he saw what looked like a single engine plane crash and subsequent fire on Angels Wings. He runs for five hours to the Sierra Nevada Mineral King Station where he reports what he witnessed to park attendant Owen Jackson and ranger Hope Banning. Hope delays her vacation to climb remote Angels Wing. Though each is reluctant to team up, Sam accompanies her as she needs a seasoned partner. Each remembers that great night of sex six months ago but his memory is tainted with guilt over his fiancé's death from a climbing accident and hers with his brutal get lost attitude afterward.

As they climb together on the search and rescue mission, their attraction remains strong leaving both on edge. When they reach the crash site, neither is prepared for what will greet them there. Trust is the only way they and others will survive.

The sequel to Aftershock is an exciting romantic suspense that begins as a dangerous mountain climb before turning into a more standard thriller scenario. Sam showcases how talented Jill Sorenson is as he was a depressed brute in Aftershock, but converts into a hero from the moment he enters the ranger station. Readers will appreciate this engaging tale as a dangerous mountain climb and a deadly villain seem like child-play compared to freefalling in love.

FREEFALL (Aftershock Book 2) by Jill Sorenson is an outstanding Romantic Suspense. It runs 245 pages (minus front- and end-matter), and I found myself hesitant to put it down, and eager to read when I really should be doing other things. The suspense was incredibly well done...making it a compelling read and a page-turner. I enjoyed the slowly revealed back story of our characters (hero, heroine, and secondary peeps), illustrating how similar our H/h are...and yet how different. The carefully crafted characters contribute extensively to the enjoyability of the book, and their pasts were both a source of conflict and the refiners fire that made them better people when together. The chemistry was believable, the personalities consistent throughout, and the secondary characters a valuable part of the story.

I loved it! Kudos to the author.

I always like the books that Jill Sorenson writes. Lots of suspense and a few sad things happening too. Some romance, some good and one not so good. If you read the book, you'll see why. Anybody that likes romantic suspense will like this book. You just can't wait to see whats going to happen next.

I loved reading this book. Such a great story. Can't wait to read more of Jill's books. This was actually the first book of Jill's that I have read but it will not be the last.

This was a fun read. I liked the characters and appreciated that Hope was a strong woman in a mostly man's world. Her insecurities stem from something understandable and believable, and I was sufficiently intrigued by their relationship and the overall mystery to keep reading until I finished the book. Sorenson's descriptions are fantastic, too.

My one complaint, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, was that the ending was too neatly wrapped for my liking. But this is personal preference; there wasn't anything particularly wrong with the ending.

All in all, I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to reading more by her!

I eagerly started this book after reading the truly awesome Aftershock, but was a little disappointed. It just didn't hold my attention as much as Aftershock did. Even with all the action scenes that Sam and Hope (and the others) go through, I admit I actually got a little bored with the book. Something was lacking. Maybe a bit more romance? I don't know. However I will read the next book in the series as it is (finally) Owen and Penny's story.

The strength of this story is in the characters. Hope is a competent park ranger and Sam is a realistic professional athlete. They go trekking into the wilderness to save Hope`s sister from drug runners. I liked the author played with my expectation of a big misunderstanding. When Hope reveals her secret to Sam it actually causes an argument instead of a reconciliation.

I have to say I enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and the storyline. I have been immersed lately in a world of romance novels and thought this was one of the better ones.
