Book Description

Silhouette Intimate Moments August 1, 2003

Ten years ago, Sophie Beaumont had watched as her twin sister, Shelly, had chosen to marry a Canfield man, bear his children and be mistress of his manor. But now Shelly was dead--killed along with her husband, Peter, in a mysterious accident--and it was Sophie who was left to raise her children, live at the Monterey mansion--and marry a Canfield man. Only this time it was Thomas, Peter's older brother....

Because Peter was dead. Or was he? Mysterious appearances at night to the contrary, he was reported to be, though no body had ever been found. And Sophie and Thomas had unfinished business--a love affair, barely begun, cut off abruptly all those years ago. One that this time Thomas was determined to see bloom....

More About the Author

I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

I love to hear from readers. You can reach me at my email address, rthayne@xmission.com or through my website http://www.raeannethayne.com

5.0 out of 5 stars a super mystery and romance!, November 14, 2003
This review is from: Freefall (Silhouette Intimate Moments) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ten years ago Sophie Beaumont had been visiting her twin sister after the birth of her first child. While there, she meets and falls for Thomas the older brother of the man who married her sister, Peter Canfield. After, Sophie and Thomas share a night of love on the beach, she is nearly raped by her brother-in-law and forcibly kicked out of the house by his father William, because William is less than happy with Shelly marrying his favourite son, he is not going to let another "white-trash" Beaumont ruin another Son's life. So Sophie ran from Thomas.

But now, everything has changed. Thomas' call in the middle of the night summons Sophie back to Seal Point the mansion of the Canfields. Peter and Shelly were killed in an car accident, leaving their three children in their care. William is not harder to care for because he has Alzheimer's, it's up to Thomas and Sophie to care for the family.

No sooner are they were than William claims Peter is coming to the house. No one believe him because he is often very confused and thinks Thomas is Peter and Sophie is Shelly, complicated in his mind because Sophie and Shelly were twins.

Thomas and Sophie's attraction flairs again, but she is still hiding why she ran from him. Thomas fears she will run again, so to insure she is there for the children, he pushes her to marry him in order to form a solid foundation for the children.

With the FBI running around investigating Shelly's and Peter's death, as well as the death of another Canfield employee...they are facing a pile of troubles.

Thayne's writing is solid, so this is one super read. So I will be checking out her other books, and have her down on my preorder list.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEFINITELY LIKE SOME MYSTERY WOVEN INTO THE ROMANCE, October 16, 2007

Already most apptly reviewed.

But I do hate it when it takes more that five years out of a characters life before they resolve their problems or misunderstandings. I want them marrying and having children.

William Canfield was presented as a bull-headed, domineering person.
But he had made a sucess of his Canfield business. Now it appears that Peter has run too many risks and lost the stockholders investments.

Peter turns out to be an arrogant, selfish b-----d who thinks he can do as he pleases.

Thomas Canfield, 34 has carried a torch [or should I say an unresolved desire] for Sophie Beaumont for the past ten years. He still does not understand why she left and refused to answer his calls. By now he is in the military Coast Guard flying a rescue helicopter.
Now that his brother, Peter and Shelly, Sophie's twin sister, have been killed he must assume the care of his father and Peter's 3 children, Alison at 10 years and the twins Zach and Zoe who are five years old.

Sophie, almost 30, is determined to also take care of and be there for Shelly's children. She will not run out on them. Thomas is fearful that she will leave and devastate the children.

It is wonderful the way the story unwinds with two people grappling with their emotions for each other and trying to lessen the suffering of the children. Thomas is having a hard time trying to understand the mess that the Canfield organization has fallen into. What was Peter thinking of?

Thomas wants to ensure that Sophie does not leave the children and especially not leave him again. He decides that marriage is the only answer. [Finally!]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m as are most of her books - thoroughly enjoyable read.
