Freekeh Foods offers different type of tasting Freekeh unlike others which are sold only in original taste but Freekeh Food Freekeh is not in organic form, it is only sold in conventional but New Village is sold in organic form. Freekeh is a delicious food but just like wheat comes with gluten and certainly no superfood. Freekeh is the name used for any wheat, usually durum, that's harvested when still green, then fire-threshed to give it a smoky intensity and pliant pop.

Whole grain foods may not contain supplemental micronutrients, as refined grains often do. If you eat large amounts of unprocessed whole grains, it's wise to increase food items with more folic acid nutrients. Bulgur is precooked cracked wheat. Because it cooks very quickly, quinoa with 222 calories per cup of cooked grain, has nearly twice the calories of bulgur, which has 112 calories per cooked cup. Cup for cup, quinoa has more of nearly every macro/micro nutrients except dietary fiber. But if on a healthy diet of legumes, seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables then fiber is the last thing on anyone's menu since after all chia tops it all when it comes to fiber. However, if you eat 2 cups of bulgur, you'll take in approximately the same amount of calories and nutrients as in 1 cup of quinoa, plus 12 grams of dietary fiber, nearly half of the average daily target intake. Quinoa has 5 grams of dietary fiber per 1-cup serving. Bulgur, with its greater volume per calorie, may promote satiety more effectively than quinoa.

Freekeh cooks in 15 minutes so I do not do what others do, I do a lot of unconventional cooking. I make dishes with Freekeh in the same manner that I cook quinoa. I place Freekeh or quinoa or both, some frozen peas in a pot, add water and tomato paste, carrots, corn and turn up the heat.

Flavor Name: Rosemary Sage Verified Purchase
This brand is the best price that I could find and still have high quality. The texture is somewhat different than your conventional tabouleh. I like it better - sprouted, young green wheat berries are harvested - which is why this is so high in antioxidants. It has a very nice rosemary sage seasoning included - but it is not heavily seasoned. I cook Freekeh with vegetables, beans - before serving I add raw, organic EVO olive oil, some minced garlic, scallions, a little bit of organic tamari soy sauce - easy, very quick meal if you want to eat healthy but don't have a lot of time. If you soak it overnight, it cooks in about 8 minutes at medium temperature. Freekeh is a very ancient strain of wheat. BTW, I am SO GLAD that I am not Celiac Sprue and don't have gluten sensitivities. So many people I know cannot eat gluten - if you don't have gluten allergies - you will enjoy this product.

I am always looking for something healthy to eat and not gain weight. This fit the bill, very filling and a little goes a long way. I used it in soup and just as a side, my husband enjoyed it as well.

I had heard about freekeh through some online research on superfoods. Once I tried it I was hooked. Tastes a little like brown rice, but cooks up faster.

Freekeh soup, of which there are endless variations, can be light fare or a downright hearty meal, never mind all the other uses for this product. I will definitely purchase again & again, because this merits being an always-on-hand pantry staple.

If you already like cereal-like grains such as Quinoa &/or Farro, & haven't yet tried Freekeh, this is probably right up your alley -- look into the high nutritional values (& take particular note of the fact that Freekeh has a low Glycemic index & therefore is suitable for managing diabetes) for additional reasons to eat & enjoy this.

This review is for the "original" flavor.

I got this and then forgot about it until one night when I wanted a grain side dish but (1) didn't want something that took an hour to cook and (2) didn't want to have quinoa (again). This was a nice compromise. It takes maybe 30 minutes from start to finish, including boiling the water. And it has a nice flavor (I just added a little salt, pepper, and butter).

This would go well on its own with a little seasoning, or would work in place of rice with vegetables/beans/etc. I love the protein and fiber levels (currently available to view in the product images) and that this has basically no sodium. (It's vegan, obviously, but not gluten free since it is a wheat product.)

The only thing I didn't love was that the cooking directions on the package weren't accurate for my stove. I set a timer for 20 minutes once I'd brought this to a simmer, and it used up the water a little sooner than that. The freekeh was fully cooked at the end, but a lot had crusted onto the pan. I think the way to remedy this is to add a little more than the recommended amount of water.

In the end, this is really good for when you want a whole grain side dish with reduced cooking time (the roasting and cracking make this cook more quickly). Just keep an eye on the water level and you should be good.

First time buyer, very healthy grain. Use instead of brown rice. This is very hard to find in local grocery stores.
