2.0 out of 5 stars Pedometer, yes; heart rate monitor, no, July 27, 2005
This product has many good features. The pedometer and distance tracking (miles) work very well. I compared the distance around my neighborhood, using mileage from a vehicle, and the distance was only off by .05 miles. That's pretty cool. The clock is accurate and easy to program; the weight for kcal calculations is easy to set too. Obviously, many of the functions work quite well.

However, in no way, shape, or form should this product be used as a heart rate monitor. It simple does not work. I read the instructions. Many, many times, in fact. But every time I tried the pulse function, I received either no read-out (0) or off-the-wall answers ranging from 42 - 171 within 30 seconds of each other. Buh-huh? I even tried a new battery, just to be sure. It does not work.

Additionally, trying to find product info at the manufacturer's site is nigh on impossible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Obnoxious Chirping Machine!, December 3, 2006
We bought two pedometers - the Oregon Scientific PE826 (which is being returned as we speak), and this one. This pedometer has many nice features - the pulsemeter seems to be accurate, as does the temperature indicator. And, it starts automatically, as soon as you start moving. However, as soon as it starts, so, too, does the obnoxious chirping. After carefully reading the instructions, I discovered that this is a "pacer," which you can indeed turn off. Unfortunately, once you turn it off, you are either in stopwatch function, or in silent pacer function - neither of which offer you what you're looking for - number of paces and distance traveled. Those come under the "pedo" function, which, as soon as you turn it on, begins the obnoxious chirping again. Very frustrating. On the up side, the buttons are easy to manage as is the pulse meter. It's sooooo close to being just what I'm looking for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Designed, April 4, 2006

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The buttons on this pedometer are accessable from both the top and front, and there is no cover. Mine would inadvertently get reset a couple of times on a three mile hike. This unit is also large and the belt clip broke off of the holster after I had only used it a couple of times. The heartrate monitor reads erratically and is basically useless as well. I bought a small Omron pedometer a couple of months ago for about ten dollars less than this one that works great. Sometimes cheaper is better.
