5.0 out of 5 stars I love this collection , and its great too worth every penny
Some great extended versions in this collection but also some great radio versions too, but here's my review... Some great extended versions in this collection but also some great radio versions too, but here's my review... I was thinking of only getting vol 5 for Nocera's 'Lets Go' which I had on 12" but wasn't available on CD until now, so this is the only place to find it unfortunately its not the extended version but the original radio version which is good. There are many great standouts such as in vol 4 which include Shana's 'I want you' and the original 12" version of the Cover Girls 'Because of You'. Most of the singles are radio version but there are extended versions included in the collection as well. For example vol 3 includes the full 12" version of Freeze's 'I.O.U.' which is some 8 minutes and 40 seconds long. Plus an extended version of Company B's 'Fascinated' I don't know if thats the 12" version but its about 5 minutes long. They also have Company B's 'Fascinated' again in vol 1, this time the radio version. I also missed Dino's 'Summer Girls' which they've also included here, also the extended version of Yvonne's 'There's a party going on' which is about 6 minutes and 17 seconds. On vol 2 I found extended versions of Tolga's 'Leave it all behind' as well as Coro's 'Where are you tonight'. Also one of my other favorites on vol 2 was 'say its gonna rain' by will to power, no not an extended version but a good radio version. They also included Loose Touch's 'Bad of the heart' which ofcourse the band was re-named to George Lamond's 'Bad of the heart' which is (to me) freestyle's best single, not the extended version however, but a good one either way. In vol 1 I found Nu Shooz's 'I can't wait', it sounded like it was transferred from a 45 rpm record (listen very closely). Also in vol 1 another standout for me included Sweet Sensation's 'Take it while its hot' which is some 5 minutes long. They could've included the 12" version of Nu Shooz's 'Point of no return' but a good radio version nonetheless, I'm sure they had space on the disc, but who's complaining so far a very nice collection. Alot of good stuff in here just look at the track listing! Have Fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where were you in '89?, November 30, 2001

This review is from: Freestyle Explosion 1-5 (Audio CD)
I have been looking for a compilation of dance hits from when I had just turned legal and was going crazy in the clubs. I have been able to find one or two songs here and there, and I just tripped over this accidentally and started having heart palpitations when I saw the track list. This has absolutely everything that was in the clubs '89-'90, '91. Ahhhh, brings back such incredible memories. I am in 7th heaven over this stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Compilation...if only it were mixed, May 14, 2002

I bought this c.d. set...and I have to say it is a wonderful collection of great classic freestyle hits. I do wish, however, that they were continously mixed just like I grew up listening to them in dance clubs. And that is exactly what KTU's hottest D.J. "Bad Boy Joe" has done with his 2 cd's called "The Best of Freestyle Megamix 1 & 2". These cd's really made the little hairs on my neck stand up...and my heart went a mile a minute. So my suggestion is to purchase both the Freestyle Explosion series as well as Bad Boy Joe's Best of Freestyle Megamix cd's. You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back n the Dayzz...., July 8, 2000

Hey, what's up! I recently purchased Freestyle Explosion Vols. 1-5 Box Set and I must say, the songs are slammin'! Compared to other 80's compilations I purchased, this 5-CD box set contains more of the dance/ freestyle music that I listened to back in the day. Overall, I am impressed with the selection of songs for this compilation (most of which you don't hear on the radio during the old-school sessions). I took the compilation ot work and now I have co-workers wanting to buy the CD set, it is that damn good. To the people at Thump Records: Keep up the good work!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Freestyle Starter Kit!, April 19, 2006

I confess. I am totally nostalgic. So even though I was a metalhead at the peak of Freestyle's hayday, I got into listening to it a few years after it was popular. Seeing that a LOT of the clubs and radio stations here in NY are playing it a lot I guess I have nothing to be ashamed of.
I bought this set FREESTYLE EXPLOSION (Volumes 1-5) for my husband's birthday. And who do you think plays it? Me!
This is a good "starter kit" featuring such freestyle artists like STEVIE B., CYNTHIA, THE COVER GIRLS, GEORGE LAMOND, NOEL, EXPOSE and CORO. There are a few things that stopped me from giving this set the perfect score of "5", instead of a "4".
1. Where is TKA? They were my favorite fresstyle act. Here, they are represented by ONE track: One Way Love! Where are Tears May Fall, Scars Of Love, Louder Than Love etc.?
2. They repeat tracks! I am a stickler for detail and work very hard on my personal mixes and repeating songs is a big no-no for me. Well, they play the song Let the Music Play by SHANNON and the song Facsinated by COMPANY B twice! It makes me mad cuz that is space they could have used for TKA tracks!
3. There are some acts on here that I'm not sure I would consider freestyle. NU SHOOZ was an 80s synthesizer group that had the hits I Can't Wait and Point Of No Return. I like NU SHOOZ but do I think they belong in the ranks with freestyle acts like NOCERA and NAYOBE? No. they would be more at home on a TOTALLY 80s compilation. Same can be said of PRETTY POSION and TAYLOR DANE.
But I am nit-picking. All in all the FREESTYLE EXPLOSION box set is a good party starter. There are also a FREESTYLE EXPLOSION Volume 6 and FREESTYLE EXPLOSION 7 for sale seperatley. May I also suggest the Tommy Boy collection FREESTYLE GREATEST BEATS Volumes 1 - 10 and TKA's GREATEST HITS. Now all ya need is a keg of beer and your party is complete!
