5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
Being a fan of the original "Freeway," I almost did not rent this movie because it is not a continuation of the first movie. In fact, it doesn't even have the same actors as the first and its plot is completely different. Also, the video cover suggests that the movie is a low budget b-rated flick with terrible acting and an even worse plot. I was pleasantly surprised. If...

I thought that Freeway was weird but gripping: it has a unique feel (that can also be experienced in Modern Vampires). This movie is something else.

I do not know why it is called Freeway 2 other than to attract audiences taken in by the first film. It has no common characters (at least none that I could remember) and only the trickbaby and social abuse themes are the same.

This is a movie of two very unequal halves. The first half involves White Girl and Cyclona in a juvenile jail. White Girl has been unfairly imprisoned and Cyclona killed her family. There are the usual stereotypes and a really good projectile vomit scene. They escape and create a trail of chaos witeh the extent of Cyclona's mental illness becoming clear.

The best part of the movie is when they hit Tijuana. Now it gets really BIZARRE! Vincent Gallo is a cannibal, cross dressing, religious nut with a penchant for making child-sex movies that pretends to cure Cyclona of her demons and attempts to overfeed White Girl to health.

Well, it doesn't make any sense but it does have a happy ending (not too far unrelated to Hansel and Gretel).

If you are a fan of the original than you will absolutely love this movie. Its darker, more perverted, twisted and sick. Its a dark disturbing movie that delves into as many dark and taboo themes as one could ask for. Cannibalism, serial killing, bulimia, lesbianism, psychopaths, fantasy..this movie has it all. I also loved the inclusion of a fairy tale theme that was actually more a part of the movie than the little red riding hood was in the original. Definitely a must see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Natural Born Killers meets Pedro Almodovar, February 1, 2001
This review is from: Freeway 2 - Confessions of a Trickbaby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Let me begin by saying that this is one of those films that you'll either love or hate. I don't think there's too much of an in between...

This film is proof that not all the great "cult classics" were made a thousand years ago. Its also proof (like one of my other faves Liquid Sky) that a movie can be very campy *and* very well directed at the same time. - - Its also proof that you can have a female action hero who doesn't spend the entire film giggling and, trying to win back her old boyfriend, and who has to look cut, ditzy and vulnerable at the same time. I think Natasha Lyonne is one white girl as hard edged as Pam Grier and Shaft combined... She's great at delivering those Clint Eastwood gone awfully awry type lines, and no one can act at barfing like her... in fact, she spends practically the entire film binging, purging, runnin' from the law, and making sure her psychopath serial killer friend takes her meds so... oops, she doesnt accidentally kill another one before reaching the refuge of the mysterious Sister Gomez, who is cooking up a bit of evil via the secret ingrediants of her tacos and enchiladas

As the film progresses, the story line becomes more and more campy and off the wall - - yet it is so well directed that despite the outrageously ludricous finale it works... - - the way things unfold, the great cast, some of the hillarious dialogue, the way things suddenly all tie in together, and the sound track too !

Here's my pick for some great before after watching. Before : Faster Pussycat Kill, Kill, Kill - - after, John Water's Cecil B. Demented which *IMHO* is not as well directed, but compliments this nicely and was afterall, directed by one of the godfathers of this genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, August 11, 2000
This review is from: Freeway 2 - Confessions of a Trickbaby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was an absolutely freaky movie. Sort of like the gory accident on the freeway that you don't want to look at, but can't seem to look away from. In spite of that, I loved this movie. I thought Cyclona was so pathetic and terrifying at the same time. And White Girl was so strong. Anyone who was raised by crazy people (now days called grossly dysfunctional)will see someone they know in this film.

It is truly Hansel & Gretel on LSD. I recommend it to everyone with an open mind and a strong stomache.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible, July 26, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Freeway 2 - Confessions of a Trickbaby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a very bad film. "Freeway" was an excellent film portraying the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood in an odd, yet interesting and brilliant new way with great acting from Keifer Sutherland and Reese Witherspoon. "Freeway 2: Confessions of a Trick Baby" is a terrible film trying to follow in the footsteps of "Freeway" by rewriting a fairy tale, only this time it's Hansel and Gretel.

In "Freeway," the fairy tale was crucial to the plot and helped move the story from one scene to the next. "Freeway 2" adds in the fairy tale at the last minute as sort of an after thought and it has no relevance to the plot.

This may have been a better movie had the writer decided to not make this a sequel to "Freeway" and instead focus on the characters of White Girl and Cyclona, who are two escaped criminals. One is a bulemic convicted drug dealer and prostitute sent away to a correctial facility and later prison for twenty years when a punishment that severe was unnecesary. The other (Cyclona) is a convicted serial killer who may either be delusional or have been pushed to the crimes she committed.

Instead, the film turns out to instead be a mess of a movie filled with unconnected scenes of graphic violence and mayhem followed by explicit scenes of sex that has nothing to do with either the plot or character development. The language and graphic violence in the first was somewhat needed to help form the characters in the film. In this film, it is unnecessary and seems forced by the characters.

Anyone who is open minded should seek out the superb "Freeway" and avoid this one. If you've seen "Freeway," the only reason to see this one would be to compare the two, only to realize how much better "Freeway" really is. Vincent Gallo is listed as being one of the main characters in this film, but he doesn't show up until the end and does a poor job of portraying a canabalistic serial killler.

1.0 out of 5 stars WHAT?, July 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Freeway 2 - Confessions of a Trickbaby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
after reading the proceeding reviews of this film I was left with no alternative but to comment, and save the poor viewers of the world..... this film was absolutely horrendous, one of the worst movies ever made! natasha lyonne and vincent gallo are two extremely talented actors, how they became involved with this catastrophe is completely beyond me... both are actors who normally shine but in this movie they seem to stuggle with every line. a third grade rendition of "jesus christ superstar" would have been less difficult to watch! and cyclona - she was actually physically painful to see in action. the only reprieve from this nightmare was david allen grier, who afforded the only laughter in the entire film.. his performance was the only one reminiscent of the greatness that was the first freeway.... i consider this joke of a movie an insult to the first and by far superior movie. the first freeway stood out as some of the best filmmaking of the 90s,it is the quintessential dark comedy. the second is the quintessential waste of film. so please please for your own sake avoid this film... i would rather catch the ebola virus then be forced to see it again!

1.0 out of 5 stars Grimm on a whim, March 29, 2001
It's not often that a director returns to do his own sequel, but if there be a cautionary example of why that's a bad idea, FREEWAY 2 is it. This time out, Matthew Bright reaches further into his psyche for an even darker shade of Grimm--only to lose his grasp. The violence here, though given token rationale, feels more like Bright is exorcising his own demons rather than those of his characters. There's a fine line between creative moralism and blatant violence, and this time Bright crosses it. Too often, we see White Girl's rage overcome a victim, or Cyclone take out someone on a whim. Granted, Bright does effectively make the point that violent offenders have been seriously damaged as children. But at the end of the day, Bright's leads play God and get away with it. If all fables come to a point, FREEWAY 2's seems to be that violence is justified if you think the other person is doing wrong anyway. It's an obviously dangerous conclusion which should preclude parents from allowing their teenagers to see this movie without supervision and additional discussion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, there is a connection..., December 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Freeway 2 - Confessions of a Trickbaby [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As many of you who have seen the first Freeway, I was an instant fan. When I found out about a sequel I couldn't wait. What I saw pleased me greatly, and I would recommend this to anyone. The main point of me writing this review though is to pay attention. Larry, the step-father from the first movie is back. So don't say there isn't a connection to the original.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cruising from one freeway to another, August 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This movie was very different from the first one that starred Reese Witherspoon. The second installment was not only different, but entertaining. (strange entertainment) If you like strange & different with a shocking twist that no one saw coming towards the end, then this is a movie for you !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairy tales on crack......, July 14, 2011
What the first Freeway was to the Red Riding Hood tale, Freeway 2 is to the tale of Hansel and Gretel. Some scenes in the movie make this more obvious than others, especially when they leave the trail of crack rocks when they leave the train and the ho-bo's go and pick them up in a pidgen-ish manner, as well as in the final scene with the transvestite nun/witch. This movie is deffinately not for everyone, but for those who enjoy something different, especially something twisted, this is a fun movie to watch.
