About the Author

Della Borton is a pseudonym for Lynette Carpenter, professor of English at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she teaches a film course.  She is also the author of Fade to Black. As D. B. Borton, she is the author of the Cat Caliban mystery series.

Gilda Liberty comes from a long line of Hollywood players that includes her grandparents, parents, siblings, uncle and aunts. Those not already in the business desperately want to be in the business except for Gilda. The forty-seven-year-old Gilda prefers to own and operate the Paradise Theater, the only movie house in Eden, Ohio. Even with half the country being between Ohio and California, Gilda still deals with the demands of her extended family. Her college age niece Faye asks her aunt to help film a documentary that the kindhearted Gilda agrees to do.

Strange occurrences begin to happen to Faye. Someone breaks into her home to steal the tapes and ironically a slice of cheesecake. Another assailant shoots the thief, but not before Gilda and Faye regain the tapes. Soon Faye's apartment is torched. This leads Gilda to think something on the tapes incriminates an individual to the point they will kill to stop it from being shown.

FREEZE FRAME will appeal to film enthusiasts as well as the amateur sleuth crowd. The book contains a big theme puzzle (Women in Film) that adds a nice touch to a well-done production. Della Borton provides masterful eccentric characters that hook the audience throughout the tale. The second "Movie Lover's mystery" (see FADE TO BLACK) will leave readers wanting additional sequels.

Once again Gilda Liberty is up to her ears in hot water thanks to her wacky family. As readers of Fade to Black know - Gilda is a descendant of a Hollywood family who has made their home in the small town of Eden, Ohio where Gilda recently inherited the Paradise Theater. Gilda's niece Faye asks her for a summer job to help pay the bills while she shoots her documentary on women in sports.

Somehow Gilda gets talked into helping Faye with her project and gets them involved in theft (not just of the original videos but of a slice of cheesecake), a fire, death threats and worse - could this be more than a simple documentary or did they capture something they shouldn't have on video?

Once again, we get to take a trip into the wild, wacky and wonderful mind of Della Borton and her characters. Again, this is not the most suspenseful or heart pounding mystery but the bizarre world of the Liberties more than makes up for it. It is the little touches that make Della's books really stand out (such as the wonderful private eye that Gilda teams up with - a female Bogart), the missing cheesecake as well as the wonderful movie references. This book will be sure to appeal to mystery and movie lovers everywhere.
