First of all, I want to say I'm a big Angry Birds fan--I have all four versions and have played for more hours than I care to admit. I have absolutely no problem with what people would call an Angry Birds clone--hey, it's something to play between Angry Birds updates.

The first time I played this app (level one), this app did lock up my phone. I had to pull the battery to recover. However, after that unfortunate event, I played several more levels and did not experience anymore freezing from this Freeze Tag game (LOL--see what I did there. OK, I know--bad joke.)

The loading is a tiny bit sluggish as is moving back from their "Cast Your Vote" and "Freeze Tag Games" web screens (which is a very small matter because really how often will you go to those screens).

Besides these initial problems, I did enjoy the game play. There sure is a lot to do and watch out for--hitting chickens, tapping on a burping pig, avoid jumping baby porcupines. The aiming controls are pretty good. One thing you might want to note is that the closer you put your finger next to the weasel the better arc you get when aiming--that will help with those hard angles.

One very interesting thing to note (for me anyway) is that your score is not stored in the data section of this app. If for some reason you have to flush the app's data, when you fire up the app again, your score remains. I'm going to look into where the score is being stored. (On the SD card? Didn't see any new files created today. Maybe online somewhere? Other games do that.) If I find anything, I'll add an update to this review. (I'm very curious about this.)

Update:
I found it! The scores are saved in a file on the SD card: "Android" directory, then "data" then "com.freezetag....rocketweasel" then the "files" directory, finally the filename: savegame.frz (Sorry, had to express it this way because the Amazon filters thought the path was a URL and deleted it the first time.)
It's movable and copyable--in other words, it looks like it can be saved and backed up. I don't have a second device, so I don't know if it can be created on one device then used on another. Maybe someone can test that for me. That would be sweet if it works though--it would mean not losing all your progress when you get a new device. (Not to mention, the dreaded factory reset--if you saved the file somewhere first.)

One reviewer stated that OpenFeint was included with this app, but I could find no empirical evidence of this--no extra data storage use, no OpenFeint offline error message, no junk files dumped on the SD card. HOWEVER, if you run the app called: Addons Detector, both OpenFeint and Flurry do show up as add-ons to this app. I'm hoping they are just inert leftovers from previous versions and are no longer used, but I would be happier if they were not there at all.

About some of the other five star reviews: They do seem a little strange. Besides the reviews posted today (June 11) all the rest were posted in February 2012--most of them on February 2. There are no other 5 star reviews between February and now. I'm not saying these reviews are fake or not, I'm just saying it's a little strange. If they are fake reviews, companies should realize that it only does them a disservice by posting them to pad their app's rating.

All and all, I'm giving this app 4 stars because it's a good game, but it could use a little more work--1. Get rid of the sluggishness; 2. An app should never freeze a device; and 3. OpenFeint and Flurry add-on's should be totally removed, since they are not being used. (Right? They're not being used?) If these issues are addressed properly, I am more then happy to add the fifth star. Read more ›

Sometimes a little too easy but some levels are blistering hard. Fun music background. Simpler game than AB which I found stressful to play. Never got mad at this little weasel. For those of you complaining about lockups and other issues than don't play. No problems on my Fire that couldn't easily be solved without exiting and returning. If that upsets you too much you are playing too many games and taking all of this too seriously.
