At (you will have to register in MyGarmin), you can download "software" under Support. This is different than a Map update. You will have to get through several steps to do this, including registering under MyGarmin and connecting your nuvi via a USB micro cable to your PC or laptop (your digital camera has a cable for this). When connected correctly in a particular order, your nuvi will be recognized and the serial # displayed on the screen. Then follow instructions to download software, and set aside 1+ hour to update your Map (No. America).
Try searching for a FAQ under the Support page; I believe there is a FAQ for this.

I have attempted this "fix" many times. My unit is 1 year old, I am very disappointed, having owned three units. My computer will not find the unit, so I cannot update anything. The traffic rarely worked correctly and of course, it is out of warranty. VERY DISAPPOINTED with Garmin product.
