Book Description

Hachette's Vacances August 2002
Containing some of France's most stunning and dramatic landscape and three beautiful regional parks, it is not surprising to learn that the best way to discover the Alps is on foot. However, there are plenty of other things for the energetic to do - from skiing and climbing (naturally), to rafting and sailing, or, for the more leisurely, simply taking the spa waters. Culture vultures can visit abbeys, monasteries and fortresses, while foodies can inspect markets, sample local delicacies and quaff some excellent wines. This colourful guide includes plenty of information to enable you to have a successful holiday whatever your interests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide to the Alps, August 18, 2009
This review is from: The French Alps (Hachette's Vacances) (Paperback)
I have read several travel books in preparation for a family trip to France next year. This one has been the most helpful. It has hundreds of wonderful pictures which bring the region to life and lots of information on local events and attractions. Want to visit a local pottery? A local woodcrafter? Attend a festival or tour a five hundred year old abbey? What are some great hiking or cycling routes in various towns? This is the sort of information at which this guide excels. It provides information on hotels and restaurants but does not devote as much space to such topics. They seem willing to concede such matters to Michelin, Frommers et al.
