French Braid Obsession: New Ideas for the Imaginative Quilter

Now understand, I am an experienced quilter and have made many quilts simply from written directions, but this has to be the worst quilt book I've ever bought. I bought it for the directions on how to make a French Braid Christmas Tree Skirt, which was one of the featured projects. I already knew how to sew a French Braid. This book has you flipping back and forth for every step and when you refer to the page mentioned they are talking about a regular quilt and not the wedge shapes in a tree skirt. The final straw is tonight when I started sewing the completed wedges together and some of the strip sizes she had you cut were incorrect! I feel like I not only wasted money on this book but if I can't save this mess I'll also have wasted all the money I spent on fabric for this project. Not good at all! Grrr!!!!!

I have the first book by this author and have made two quilts from it. They are fun and impressive in their construction. I was hoping for many more new ideas with her second book and was disappointed to find that the first 37 pages repeat methods from the first book. So if you don't own the first book, you really can get away with buying just this second book. And if you already own the first book, just be forewarned that the second one repeats a LOT of the first one!

I have this book as well as the first book French Braid Quilts. Anytime you follow an author there is a certain amount of repetition, but French Braid Obsession stands alone as a wonderful manual for making colorful and creative quilts like no other. When I am making one of these quilts and I have to refresh my knowledge I am grateful that I don't have to run find "the other book." I am so inspired just from the examples. The details on each quilts construction are superb. If you thought you were obsessed with these designs before, this is just the ticket to keep you satisfied!

I loved the first book and I'm thrilled with the second. I'm finishing a quilt from the new book FRENCH BRAID OBSESSIONS and the results are fantastic. Well written, wonderful instructions, good illustrations, and WOW results. I've make quilts from both books and I'm looking forward to more French Braid books in the future. Must have books, must make quilts!

WOW! These are beautiful quilts, however, I have yet to make one because the directions are not that easy to understand. I've made quilts and sewn for the last 30 years and I'm nervous about making something I don't get. Maybe I just need to go for it.

My friend has made a couple of the "french braid" quilts and they are incredibly beautiful. This book provides more ideas on how to use the technique and is really inspiring. Beautiful!

This book is filled with many beautiful patterns. I have enjoyed and hated working on a project from this book.
The instructions have you flipping from front to back, using directions from other quilts, all in all pretty difficult to understand. The measuring, with these projects, is also an issue. There are no real, concrete, measurements. These are cut as you piece patterns, which is opposite of how I like to quilt. I like to cut then piece.
I would highly recommend you make a practice quilt before cutting into your good fabrics. Being an experienced quilter, I found the language of this pattern to be challenging but once past that, I found the end product very gratifying. I suggest you take notes as you work your practice quilt then use those for your show project.
Plan on reading the whole book before starting any pattern. This will help when you start your quilt.

I like this book and if you have it you do not need the FRENCH BRAID QUILT book. This book shows how to do a straight braid panel and also how to make a circle. This has a beautiful Christmas Tree Skirt.I have not tried it yet, but I might want to. Thanks

Any needlework library will find this a fine read.

This book takes the basic French Braid Technique to the next level. Still has the annoying instructions that have you flipping from one section to another BUT the projects are superb.
