4.0 out of 5 stars Legion for sale ......., February 20, 2000
By
This review is from: The French Foreign Legion Today (Europa Militaria) (Paperback)
When you glance throug this book you get the impression of some one trying to sell something. In this case it's the legion. First brief history about the legion and then a couple of lines about diffrent regiments in the FFL. You get the impression that the authour wanted to finish this book quickly, that he rather wanted to do something else. The reason I gave this book so high grades is because of the absoulutely awsome pictures ! There are about a 100 full colored pictures here sometimes taking a whole page for them selves. They flourish of life and adventure and your going like "wow !" and "ahh" all the time. So if you want a look inside of the legion (litterrary speaking) this is the book for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Foreign Legion Picturebook!, July 10, 2000
By
This review is from: The French Foreign Legion Today (Europa Militaria) (Paperback)
This book is a brief (66 page) book about the French Foreign Legion. It looks and reads more like a magazine, with tons of great photographs... plus inserts, fact sheets & the like. It doesn't go much into history (hence the title), but it does describe each regiment/unit. It also has information that I haven't seen anywhere else--on the Pioneers, for example. (There was no mention of the Pioneers anywhere in Douglas Porch's 600+ page "The French Foreign Legion.") This book is a must-have for any Legion buff.

Note that the information is a little dated. The French no longer perform nuclear testing, for example. After reading this book, you may want to join, but make sure to get current information first!
