4.0 out of 5 stars Faster than a knife
After buying a similar apple slicer at the dollar store (worked, but was flimsy), I bought this because I like to make french fries and it seemed like a good concept. Well, potatoes are a lot harder to force a blade through than apples are, so pushing it gently was not going to work.

1.0 out of 5 stars waste of money
I thought this would be a great thing to make french fries, but unless you're a strong man, it is impossible to push a potato through the cutter. It cuts about half way down and then sticks. If you're lucky enough to get it all the way though, it won't push the extra half inch to get it off the cutter, so you have to cut it off anyway. Waste of time and money.

After buying a similar apple slicer at the dollar store (worked, but was flimsy), I bought this because I like to make french fries and it seemed like a good concept. Well, potatoes are a lot harder to force a blade through than apples are, so pushing it gently was not going to work.

After a bit of experimentation, I figured out how to use the thing. You slice a small bit of the potato off the bottom so you can stand the spud upright, push the blade into it a bit (that's about all it will go anyway), then pick the whole thing up and smack it into a cutting board. A couple of smacks and the potato is all the way through the blades. I haven't cut large russet potatoes, just medium sized yellow potatoes.

It does work well, is faster than a knife, but I did expect something with a bit more finesse. It is also easy to clean and not too bulky to store. Overall it is not bad.
