Book Description

March 16, 2010
Name: Sally Marshall
Status: Single mother
Age: 32
Nationality: Ten years in France, yet still English through and through. I like: Living in Paris, playing with my daughter Lila (four-years-old), the company of good friends, the smell of baking bread . . .

So reads Sally's ad, posted on a French online dating site called Rendez-Vous. Sally left Nicolas, her French boyfriend of ten years and Lila's father, after she discovered that he was having an affair with his secretary. Six months have now passed, and although most of the time she feels like she's just dashing around like a headless chicken, she's beginning to bounce back.

But making a new start is fraught with complications. As she meets freshly-single Frédéric for a drink, spends the night with charmer Manu and runs away from ex-pat Marcus, she wonders: can she find a way to reconcile motherhood with single womanhood? To what extent can she keep Lila and her love life separate? And is she truly ready to turn her back on Nicolas?

More About the Author

I'm a thirty-six year old Brit who has been living in Paris for thirteen years.

I began blogging, anonymously, as "petite anglaise" back in July 2004, writing about life in Paris, about my daughter Tadpole and my partner, Mr Frog. Little did I know when I started blogging that "petite anglaise" was going to turn my life upside down.

A year later I fell in love with one of my blog readers and had to make some difficult decisions. In 2006 I was fired by my employers when they became aware of the existence of my blog. Later that year I signed a book deal to transform my story into a memoir.

These days I'm writing full-time and still madly in love with Paris.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you like the blog then you will enjoy, January 29, 2010
This review is from: French Kissing (Paperback)
If you read Petite's blog, which no doubt a large proportion of readers of this book have, then you will probably enjoy this book. No it's not profound or life-changing, it's a light read perfect for holidays or if you just want something to snuggle down with along with a hot chocolate. It has all the twists, turns, laughter and tears that are associated with a young woman's life and the author's obvious knowledge of Paris adds a certain something more to the story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Seems a lot like her other book., January 16, 2010

I enjoyed reading Catherine Sanderson's debut novel I think because it was based on a true story. This book seems like the same thing, only with the names changing. I was a little disappointed in the content but it was able to keep me interested.

5.0 out of 5 stars The inimitable Catherine Sanderson, January 14, 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: French Kissing (Paperback)
This is the first novel by Catherine Sanderson, author of the memoir and blog Petite Anglaise. This book is a joy to read, due to the author's tart wit, frank sexuality, obvious knowledge of Paris, and insight into young women in and out of love and desire. The writing is crisp and clear, and the characters are real and memorable. Catherine has chosen to transition from nonfiction to fiction by staying close to what she knows best. I look forward to her next book. Read this with a glass of wine in the evening or a croissant and bowl of coffee on a morning after you've slept in.
