5.0 out of 5 stars SANDRA... AT HER BEST !
After recently re-reading this book, I felt the need to urge others to read it too. If you like a mystery that keeps you guessing, a love story that sizzles, a leading lady who is as smart as she is sexy, and a hero who defines the meaning of the word - then this is the novel for you. Claire and Cassidy leads a cast of well-crafted characters, that will keep you...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not her best work
I am a big fan of Sandra Brown's, but this book was a disappointment. It moved much too slowly and I found myself wondering if it would ever end. I wasn't impressed with Cassidy at all for a couple reasons. He chased her around all the time asking questions when that should have been the detectives job. Claire was never questioned by the cops. And I didn't care for...

After recently re-reading this book, I felt the need to urge others to read it too. If you like a mystery that keeps you guessing, a love story that sizzles, a leading lady who is as smart as she is sexy, and a hero who defines the meaning of the word - then this is the novel for you. Claire and Cassidy leads a cast of well-crafted characters, that will keep you eager to turn the page and find out what comes next. Unfortunately for us readers,(as with all Sandra Brown's books) the endings come way to quickly, and you have to shift your imagination into overdrive to keep the story going in your mind past the final chapter. "FRENCH SILK" is a fantastic read. Set against the colorful and captivating backdrop of New Orleans, Ms. Brown weaves a tale of mystery, suspense and an unforgettable story of romance and family loyalty. Claire will stop at nothing to protect her fragile mother from an unforgiving world, her best friend from the perils of loving a married man, and the company she founded from the ravings of a religious fanatic. Cassidy is her perfect match. He is looking to solve the case of the decade, and trap a cold-blooded killer - even it it means investigating the woman he could'nt help loving. Don't let this one slip by you ! Pick it up today and enjoy ! And if you've already read it,is'nt it about time you had the pleasure again ?

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder and mayhem in the Big Easy, November 14, 2006
By
Charismatic televangelist Jackson Wilde has targeted Claire Laurent and her lingerie catalog as tools of the devil. When Wilde turns up dead, Claire is the prime suspect, much to New Orleans District Attorney Robert Cassidy's plight, as he's falling for the alluring woman who just might be a murderer. This is foreign territory for a tough as nail prosecutor who never mixes business with pleasure.

While it looks like Claire might have done it (and she's without an alibi), there are a host of others out there with motive to kill not so squeaky clean preacher, including his latest wife and son, who are having a hot affair. But as Robert uncovers yet another lie that Claire has told him, will be able to forgive her?

Featuring a spunky heroine with a backbone, sexy hero, plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing and lots of steamy love scenes, this is Brown at the top of her game, and one of her most sensual and enduring stories. A definite must read!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not her best work, January 13, 2002
By A Customer
I am a big fan of Sandra Brown's, but this book was a disappointment. It moved much too slowly and I found myself wondering if it would ever end. I wasn't impressed with Cassidy at all for a couple reasons. He chased her around all the time asking questions when that should have been the detectives job. Claire was never questioned by the cops. And I didn't care for the way he "wooed" her into bed. Kind of a turnoff. Claire was on my nerves because she kept lying time and again and with all the evidence they had against her, she should have been arrested at the beginning of the book. Everytime they turned up more evidence, it was never enough according to the Asst. D.A. The killer turned out to be a disappointment too because he/she (I will try not to give it away) had no motive, no opportunity, no nothing until the last three pages of the entire book. There's all kinds of suspects throughout the book and it turns out to be someone who had no reason at all, or so you were lead to believe. I think the author would have done better including this person as a likely suspect along with everyone else in the book. I'm glad I'm finally done with it.

I can honestly say that the book kept me guessing and the villain came as a surprise. I suspected anyone but... The writing sizzles with heat. I would read anything from this author.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen to the Abridged Version, August 18, 2007
This review is from: French Silk (Audio Cassette)
The abridged audio book is terrible. Loretta Swit's reading is awful - especially the southern accents. It was hard to listen to. I am giving it 2 stars, because I can only hope that the book is so much better and fills in all the big gaps. Why Cassidy ever found Claire attractive is not apparent in the audio version. She always is lying to him. What is attractive about that? I like Sandra Brown's books, but will only listen to unabridged versions in the future. (This one did not come in an unabridged version - that I could find...) Also no more with Loretta Swit as the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST Sandra Brown books out there!, May 11, 2006
This book is one of my Sandra Brown all-time favorites along with Slow Heat in Heaven and Where There's Smoke. I've read this book three times already and I never tire of it. If you like Sandra Brown or romance, you can't pass up this book. Great for beach, pool, or vacation reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps you guessing until the very end, March 4, 2006
On a hot day in sultry New Orleans, lives would be rocked when the well-known televangelist, Jackson Wilde, is found murdered in his hotel room. While fingers are initially pointed at his young wife and son, Claire Laurent, the owner of the successful lingerie company, French Silk, would raise assistant district attorney Robert Cassidy's suspicions. And with her lack of alibi, it seems that Cassidy has found the murderer. Yet, he was never prepared for the feelings that Claire would rouse in him. And for the first time in his life as a prosecutor, he finds himself desperately trying to find proof that their suspect is innocent.

Trying to forget her sad childhood, Claire has adopted an appearance of aloofness, building a wall around her emotions. Not since she was five, when the social workers first took her away from her mother, did she let anyone wield any power over her - until she met Cassidy. Claire knows that it is hopeless to fall in love with the man who represents the system she has resented and feared since she was a child. But for these two people on the opposite sides of a criminal investigation, it would take love and trust to completely bring them together.

FRENCH SILK is an enjoyable murder-mystery romance featuring intriguing characters that would catch your attention right from the start. Claire is quite a complex character, so cool and calm on the outside, yet it is the inner vulnerability that endears her to the readers, and also makes her such an enigma to the hero. Cassidy is the driven attorney out to prove himself to the public. But what makes him such an interesting character is his struggle to suppress his growing feelings for the woman who might be guilty of such a horrendous crime. Throughout the story, we see his pain over Claire's possible guilt. The interaction between these two is almost like a continuous battle to see whose will outlasts the other.

Although some parts were prolonged a little, Sandra Brown has created a very good story with just the right blend of romance, intrigue and mystery. And just when you thought you had the murderer pinned down, along comes another teaser that would start you guessing once again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better., April 5, 2005
This book for some reason or another took me a while to get through it. I guessed what was behind Claires motive real quick, but the ending I didn't expect. I personally don't feel that it was one of her best, but by all means still a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hold on to this one..., July 6, 2003

French Silk is definitely one of Sandra Brown's better works. I enjoyed it very much. At times it was a bit predictable, but it didn't detract from the book. The characters were well thought out and elaborated on, and the pace of the book was quick.
