Not for Broiler or Stovetop, April 10, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: French White 8 Piece Bakeware Set (Kitchen)
Unfortunately the beautiful durable glass-ceramic that we all came to love is no longer. The trademark Corningware is now used on Stoneware and is NOT made in the USA. The Corningware currently being marketed can NOT be used under the broiler or on the stove top. It is not the same product that your mother had or what you received for a wedding gift twenty years ago!

Excellent all around product., August 19, 2003
This review is from: French White 8 Piece Bakeware Set (Kitchen)
This is a wonderful multi-purpose set. I love that I can bake something in them, store the left-overs in the fridge and than heat up the left overs in the microwave. They are dishwasher safe and I have never had any problems with them in the dishwasher.
Clean up can be a bit sticky at times. Even when greasing a casserole isn't suggested I tend to at least use a spray oil to help with that. Burnt on food is a bit trickier and even tho they are broiler safe, Ihaven't done that. I have roasted meat and poultry in them and the clean up can be a bit tedious. Since they are white you really do need to get them clean or they will look *dirty* very fast. If I do need to roast something using one, I will use a rack...but even than I prefer not to. This isn't the kind of cook ware you can use steel wool on.
All of that said...this is very attractive with almost any decor. I prefer the simplicity as you can use it no matter how many times you change kitchen colors. And if you add pieces from this or another set, if you stick to white only, you will get a put-together look. Taking a meal to a pot-luck in this is quite attractive and it's not so expensive that you need to keep tabs on it all that much.
These work so well for side dishes, casseroles, some baking too. Reheating things like spaghetti and meatballs or stews are a breeze. I have cooked rice in the microwave in these (it boils so you may need a bigger container than you think initially). I have also baked rice in the oven with these and made rice pudding... Baked apples... small lasagna... etc. As well as cold sides like salads. I have even brined chicken breasts in them...or marinated meats in them. Having the lids/covers makes me feel better about having raw meat/poulty in the frige. I will leave unripe fruit on the counter to ripen in them too as they are quite attractive.
This is a great all around set. There are smaller containers that are very useful for storing leftovers and bake just as well. this is an excellent product and seems to cook more evenly than the all clear glass cook ware. I think it is also more attractive and classic looking than the all glass cook ware. An excellent addition.

WHATEVER THE SITUATION CALLS FOR THESE CORNING WARE DISHES/CONTAINERS ARE READY FOR JOB...AND NOT ONLY ARE THEY FUNCTIONAL THEY'RE STARKINGLY BEAUTIFUL. CLEAN UP IS ALSO A SIMPLE TASK. IN ADDITION I WOULD RECOMEND OTHER MATCHIND BOWLS AND LIDS MANY OF WHICH I HAVE IN MY OWN KITCHEN.
