Essential phrases,

We used a combination of French review strategies in preparation for a trip to France with our son who has special health care needs. We used public transportation in France, with no problems. This CD was on in my minivan on continuous loop for a month before the trip, so that the entire family would be exposed to the vocabulary and standard ways of phrasing short questions. The vocabulary in this set is essential for travelers, and is not emphasized as much in the other sets. I highly recommend this product, in combination with other products, for helping develop an expressive vocabulary. You will need other products to understand the responses! (Rosetta Stone is wonderful for receptive vocabulary; Barron's Learning French the Fast and Fun Way was good for more vocabulary and grammar; Nintendo DS My French Coach was a good game for learning even more vocab; Muzzy reached the whole family with basic basics.)

This is concise, great for basic needs and even has a booklet. Unlike Pimsleur, one can see what the words look like and can learn how to mix and match more than the bare minimum that Pimsleur offers through endless repetition. A great start to learning a language completely.

As the title indicates, its French for your trip. Good for basic communications about tickets, directions and bathrooms. Proper phrases, but not "conversational" or dialectic.
If you plan on going anywhere other than the airport or train station, you may want to consider another option.
