Editorial Reviews

Review

It is is such a lighthearted read, great for both kids and adults!-  Claudia B.

Guaranteed to fuel the entrepreneurial flames of the tween reader.  What hi-jinx will our hero get into next?- Alison W.

Today's tech savvy kids will relate to the mix of traditional text and Ethan's communication via his blog. A great inspiration for blog writing. - J.H. (PYP Teacher Librarian of an International Baccalaureate School)

It would be a great read for literature circles.  It has so many good discussion topics but it is also humorous, a perfect combination.-N. S., Teacher@ Hazelgrove Elementary

From the Author

Where did you get your idea for writing Frenchie's Best Friend-Follow the Blog?
My youngest son, working in a big box pet store,  constantly shared stories of the crazy, insane things that happen when one is grooming dogs away from the view of the pet owners.  Their policy is to take any dog-whether they are aggressive, huge, nervous, matted, or flea infested and one can expect that chaos reigns. His stories were so hilarious, that I tried to convince him that he should write an entertaining pet care blog. I suggested he create a Pet Groomer blog. He didn't, but, of course- I DID with my first novel of the Frenchie Series: Frenchie's Best Friend (FBF)- Follow the Blog.

What was most rewarding for you while writing Frenchie's Best Friend? I am usually a well-planned person and before I write, I have a story plan and know where the story is going to lead me.  As the book evolved, the ending came together and resolved itself in a special twist and surprise finish; one that I had not foreseen or anticipated.  It amazed me how much I lived in the story while I was writing it.  I was completely immersed in the story; problem solving and having internal conversations.  It was a new level of focus for me!

Did you have fun while you wrote your book?
I had such a good time with Ethan and his Grandma Sis' covert scheming. The chaotic, crazy predicaments that Ethan got himself into, had me chuckling aloud. It was fun for me to see that I can write in such a way that I am certain my readers will experience their own "belly laughs"!

This is a humorous and fun story by Author Mary J. Laudien. It's very well written, and as a canine fancier, I found myself laughing out loud as teen Ethan plans a way to get the dog of his dreams...a French Bulldog. Ethan lives with his mom who is divorced. She is a hard working, dedicated school teacher who feels it is not time to add a dog to the family. Ethan is 13 years old and feels he is responsible to take great care of a dog, so he get's with his paternal grandmother and they secretly find a way for him to reach his goal. This is very delightful, a story that moves the reader right along. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend this to not just young adults, but to all who have a passion and understanding for dogs.
