hip music,
This review is from: Frequency (Audio CD)
Naked Rhythm was founded by two aspiring music artists, Alex Spurkels and Avi Sills, from California in 2003. Alex Spurkels, an electronic/world percussionist who is renowned for being an electronica pioneer, and Avi Sills, a cutting-edge drummer. Naked Rhythm is new age electronica music that was formed with the aspiration of bringing down order and uniting the world through cross-cultural music.Frequency is certainly one of Naked Rhythm's finest works to date, having sold 10 million CDs. Frequency, the second album of Naked Rhythm, consisting of a compilation of 11 songs of dance remixing music of tradition and original tracks influenced by sounds from across the World. It draws from traditional Middle-Eastern, Asian, African and South American influence, ranging from upbeat techno beats to down right hip hop and jazz lounge music. Sitars, drums, jazz, electronics, and hip hop meld together to create a mellifluous flow of unique rhythm and style of music that showcases the individuality of different styles of music. Frequency is the perfect type of lounge, feel-good music that makes me want to dance type of music. The rhythms are deep, with layered percussion, creating the perfect dancing tempo. Naked Rhythm creates music by fusing exotic music from all over the world and melds it with electronic music, and percussion, jazz- a little bit of everything. Adapting to different forms of percussion and contemporary electronic dance rhythms and grooves, Naked Rhythm is innovative and very appealing as electronica music. Listening to Naked Rhythm's Frequency album is like taking a journey around the world, by blending cultures together to create a unification of world music all on one soundtrack. Personally, my favorite track on this album was the song called Deep Lotus. This particular piece starts off with a strong Indian influence with the unique voice of Indian vocalists in the background. But along with these vocals, there is a synthetic voice repeating an intriguing phrase: "The secret is supreme in this," followed by "All creatures have their birth in this." As the music progresses, a saxophone are introduced, creating a jazzy element to the piece. The rhythm of the drums creates an incredible pulse and hip-hop element underlining a delightful melody that is traded back and forth from a sitar and a flute. There are some traces of record scratching also, which adds to the hip-hop flavor. As the repeated phrase "All creatures have their birth in this" seems to suggest, the nature of this song, the nature of this album, and the nature of Naked Rhythm as a band, is stems all sorts of cultures around the corners of the world. The result of this world collaboration is a cool and beautiful type of electronica music that displays the unity of world culture through music, but at the same time allows for the uniqueness of each culture to shine through the music. Naked Rhythm is unique, and really worth listening to if you like lounge music with a hip, flavorful beat to it. This band is doing great things for new age music.
