I love these songs. If you're into Thievery Corp, Gotan Project, Rodrigo&Gabriela (but with more electronic/bass element), and/or looking for really excellent and listenable and grooving juxtapositions with flamenco guitar, some sitar, and various other instruments, then I would highly recommend this 2disc collection. I can't believe the shallow negative reviews I'm reading here, dinging this collection for not having met some sort of exact expectations these listeners may have had, when they placed their orders. Open up and love it instead! Based on how much I like this collection, I'm looking to see what else in this "frequent flyer" series I can get into.

I have been a fan of the Frequent Flyer series, having purchased Kingston, Rio De Janeiro and Buenos Aires before. This one once again highlights an exotic city and selects tunes made in, or inspired by the loungy, electronica scene in Barcelona. The first disc is lighter in mood and sound while the second one is deeper and more intense. If you would like to hear a new twist on Flamenco, then pick this up!

...is this a bad CD? absolutely not. Was I disappointed? Yes. I heard Te Alejabs de Mi on Pandora and loved the song so much that I bought this album. I don't claim to be an expert on Spanish music or Barcelona (I've been once), but other than the song I mentioned, I didn't feel much Spanish influence here. I also wished there had been more vocals. Only one song that I remember has vocals. But even without that, this could have been a better album. I enjoy Thievery, Bent, Bliss, Kuba, The Verbrilli Sound, Kevin Yost, some Gotan Project, Esthero, but out of the 20 or so songs on the discs, I only found one that I really enjoy. The rest are just okay. Not bad by any means, but very neutral (in my opinion). These artists put together a good/decent album, but there wasn't anything that moved me. Maybe you will feel differently? Sorry to criticize someone's work of art.

Everyone should have at least a core collection of album/cds....etc....and this item should be one of them, you won't be disappointed, and the hot babe on the cover doesn't hurt either.

This CD is just what I wanted, which was music that allowed me to get into a meditational, hang-out mood. The vendor was excellent, 'cause I got this at almost 1/2 off the new price, yet it was brand new in the shrink wrap. Very interesting Spanish influence in the music. If you have a stereo w/ huge old school woofers, you'll be happy w/ the bass (Mine are 3-way speakers w/ 12" woofers.) But a medium volume is preferred, and the EQ should have plenty of mid- and high-range frequencies because the sound effects and voice tracks add to the experience.

This fashionable lightweight collection of tunes whilst having a Spanish looking woman on its' cover doesn't sound either cutting edge (as claimed on the cover) or very Spanish to these ears. There is nothing really 'wrong' with the tunes except for the fact that 10 out of 21 tracks were written by the same people Beatriz Nunez and David Ferrero under different pseudonoms. This made me feel ripped off as I was hoping for a more varied sampler. Pleasant but definately not cutting edge whatever that may mean.

Not Spanish Music,

I'm a fan of music from around the world. Sometimes I want to listen to Irish, sometimes Indian/Bollywood, sometimes Spanish. This is not Spanish. Granted, most of the singing is Spanish, but there is no doubt that most of the songs sound like they're from... Bollywood?
Yup, most of the songs are extremely Indian in flavor. I did not get this CD set with the hopes of hearing Spanish sung to Indian beats and with Indian inflections/vocal modulation. But that's what this is. A friend of mine who is a native Spanish speaker even attested some of the vocals, while Spanish, were actually tinged with an Indian accent. Couldn't this collection have had music actually from Spain? If you have hopes for something guitar flavored or merely Spanish in the most stereotypical of senses, steer far from this. The Argentinian and Red Eye Frequent Flyer collections are not bad, however, and true to their titles. |
