Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this dry but comprehensive volume, Anolik and Hawks have collected everything a seasoned traveler could ever need, from an in-depth discussion of the legal issues involved in traveling to tips on scoring that promised beach-view hotel room. The thoroughness they apply to the laws and regulations governing travel for American citizens is especially noteworthy. During these uneasy times, for example, many readers will be pleased to learn how to contact the obscure American Citizen Services and Crisis Management division of the State Department. And although the book's prose is hardly inspiring-those looking for a vivid armchair traveling companion should turn elsewhere-frequent travelers who know that today "one flight in forty has been cancelled, and one in four flights will not arrive on time" will find that the guide can truly help navigate all the technical ins and outs. There are sections on air travel, rental cars, hotel rooms, cruises, travel tours, international travel, travel agents, travel insurance, travel crimes and discrimination in traveling. Nearly every chapter ends with a comprehensive list of addresses and phone numbers for contacting airlines, hotels and the like. Casual travelers may find all the information they need in more user-friendly guidebooks; nonetheless, this volume is an excellent resource for those who travel often and widely.

This is not a book for the frequent traveler. Just about everything in it, you know already. Some of the things seem quite outdated, such as open-ended round-trip tickets...
This might be an OK book for a family just starting to do some real travelling. Otherwise, pass.

This book did not provide any real news for a genuine frequent traveller. It might be suitable for some young people starting their travel life....................................................................
