Editorial Reviews

Fresh Air with Terry Gross, the Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues, is one of public radio's most popular programs. Each week nearly two million people tune in to the show's intimate conversations broadcast to over 300 National Public Radio member stations across the country.

The one-hour program features Terry Gross' in-depth interviews with prominent cultural and entertainment figures, as well as distinguished experts on current affairs and news.

Though Fresh Air has been categorized as a "talk show", it hardly fits the mold. Its 1994 Peabody Award citation credits Fresh Air with "probing questions, revelatory interviews, and unusual insights." And a variety of top publications count Gross among the country's leading interviewers. The show gives interviews as much time as needed, and complements them with comments from well-known critics and commentators.

This collection of interviews brings together just a fraction of all the interviews from Fresh Air's history. It includes Terry Gross' conversations with James Woods, Diane Keaton, Al Pacino, David Chase, Bill Murray, Peter Fonda, Dustin Hoffman, John Cusack, Anjelica Huston, Clarence Williams III, Gene Hackman, Samuel L. Jackson, Sidney Poitier, Uta Hagen, David Mamet, Werner Herzog, and Catherine Deneuve.

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoy the show and these are great snippets of it on CD, December 7, 2001
By A Customer
I listen to the show when I can on NPR. This collection is just a small slice of some of the famous and infamous people she's interviewed. I am a fan of the movies and theatre as much as the next person. I just don't go out of my way to read about the stars in every magazine. If you are a "fanatic" and your life revolves one of these interview subjects, you may be disappointed. If you are the well-rounded average Joe or Jane, the quantity and quality of the interviews in this set is just right with the 17 people Terry Gross brings out to us. Most are interviews she did in 1999 and 2000 with the earliest being Clarence Williams III's in 1995 and if you remember the "Mod Squad" his interview is a good listen. I'd like to see a collection of interviews she's done with writers and authors next, it would be as cool as this group of artists.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Air on Stage and Screen Vol 2, August 16, 2005
By
Terri Gross is the most engrossing interviewer of our day (along with Howard Stern). Her style is relaxed, intelligent, poignant and fun. Her choice of guests & questions, and her-across-the-board knowledge that allows her to make an interview feel like a casual conversation with a friend, almost makes you feel as if you were in the room with them. My only complaint about these CDs is that the interviews are partial, leaving you wanting more.
