La Savonnerie Le Sérail is the last remaining artisanal soapmaker located in the heart of Marseilles, France. Established in 1949, the factory is dedicated to the production of traditional Marseilles soap (or as the locals call it, Savon de Marseille) following methods established in the 17th century by the edict of Colbert. Savon de Marseille is entirely natural soap made either from saponified olive oil or saponified vegetable oil (in our case, palm and copra oils). This authentic 600-gram cube of traditional Marseilles soap is an essential part of any bathroom, kitchen or laundry room. Use it to take a shower, wash your dishes or get rid of stains on your clothes. Hand-crafted from olive oil with neither fragrance nor color added, it is the purest and most luxurious of all soaps. This cube is fresh and can be easily sliced into smaller pieces.

This is a handmade soap (Savon de Marseille). I have bought this soap from different suppliers (and this vendor via their website) before and it is normal to receive them in different conditions. The one I received from them was not dry. Some people prefer to dry the soap before using it so that it will last longer, some other people like it to be "fresh". I personally prefer it to be dry so that it will last me longer and it being "dry" on the outside does not in any way changes its cleansing properties. If you are looking to buy a "perfect looking soap" for decoration stick with their fragranced soaps instead because they are hard milled (they are already meant to last).

This is the only soap I will use in the shower. It's creamy, makes nice lather, smells great. I have it in many scents,all with essential oils. Never has this product disappointed me.

This soap, for those who haven't yet tried it, is so pure and skin softening that my
sister said she didn't need moisture cream on her body even in the winter with dry,
heated air in the house.
