5.0 out of 5 stars For A Supremely Pampered Feeling & Moist, Smooth Skin, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish (Misc.)
I have tried a large selection of body scrubs over the years. Most of these are exfoliants made up of large pieces of sea salt and essential oils. Now, one of the reasons I use a body exfolliant is to get rid of dry, cracked, dead skin (sounds disgusting...but it's true). Rubbing a sea salt scrub onto dry skin is probably where they got the expression "rubbing salt into a wound." Double ouch! And people pay money for this torture?? "Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish" is unique in that it's scrub component is brown sugar, mixed with delectable oils like Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernel, Evening Primrose, Lemon, Grapefruit, Orange, Bergamot, Lemongrass, and Citron. Not only does Brown Sugar Body Polish not sting - it has one of the most delicious smells that has ever wafted by my nostrils. And it is so gentle on the skin. I love the slight moisturizing residue which remains on the skin after use. It soaks into the skin to prevent further dryness. There's no need to use a body moisturizer with this body polish. If you don't want the slight amount of oil to remain on your body, then simply use your favorite body wash to remove it.

The entire Fresh Sugar Bath Collection unites the historically proven benefits of real brown sugar with ultra-rich emollients and botanicals. Extremely effective, sweet formulas transform the skin and transport the senses. Traditional remedies relied on topical applications of sugar to cuts and wounds to accelerate the healing process and avoid infection and scarring.

I feel feminine and so pampered every time I use this product. It is a real treat and highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars Generally a waste of money and doesn't hold up well over time, January 1, 2007
This review is from: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish (Misc.)
Despite the high price, I wanted something different and gave this product a shot. I bought this item a few months ago and feel that after owning and using it for a few months that I can competently write about and review it.

Smells nice enough, more lemony and citrusy than anything else, but that positive aspect does not compensate for the many negatives:

(1) Price - at $60 enough said

(2) Messy - if you are not clumsy/prone to slipping and have your own shower that you don't share with anyone I can see using this. If not, beware as the heavy oils leave a very slippery surface and I could easily envision someone slipping, especially an unsuspecting person. Frankly, for as nice as this feels on your skin afterwards, who wants to have to scrub down/wipe the floor of a shower each time it is used? I don't, but if you have a shower you share I think you'd have to. I can't imagine taking a bath with this stuff, way too oily.

(3) Quality - I have had this product for a few months (as I don't use it daily). Over these past months I have noticed it doesn't "age" well and even worse, attracts mold on the twist part of the lid. You have to remember, it is sugar and oil and in a moist environment, it makes sense that it will attract/start to grow things you don't necessarily want in your shower - even if you keep the jar closed tightly and keep a clean bathroom (as I do). In a nutshell: store this carefully or use it quickly.

(4) Consistency - Over these past few months, the consistency of the product has broken down to the point it is mostly oil with a bit of granulation. To this end, it doesn't serve much of its exfoliating purpose anymore. I could understand the product separating due to its composition, but the dissolving of the sugar over time totally defeats the purpose of the product (exfoliating scrub).

Overall, I concur with the complaints of the heavy oils that some other reviewers have noted and add my comments above.

It's basically nothing more than an overpriced jar of scented body oil with a couple of lumps of brown sugar in it that becomes a mess real quick. If I had time, I'd make my own at home and save some money.

Save your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic but there are great alternatives, October 24, 2007

I normally love love love Fresh. Works great, feels amazing, smells incredible, all natural ingredients- all around religious experience that generally merits the jacked up price. And this polish is no exception.

I'll pay a lot for Fresh products because 1) they really work and 2) they're the only products I know that work. But this just isn't the case for the Body Polish. A lot of brands have kind of copied Fresh's idea. Basically any body scrub that is based on brown sugar or sugar cane and that has jojoba oil and apricot kernal oil will do all the great conditioning and resurfacing for your skin. I got a tub for 1/3 the price of Fresh at Whole Foods- the Aura Cacia.

However, if money's not a big thing for you- Fresh is still the way to go. This is definitely the best product on the market but it loses a star for being so overpriced when cheaper alternatives are out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spa in a Jar - worth the money!, February 18, 2008

The Rose Mask and Body Polish are my favorite products from Fresh. When I want to have silky smooth skin, the Body Polish does the trick. The sugar works as an excellent exfoliator and the oil is just marvelous on the skin. It is admittedly pricey but worth it for those days when you want to indulge yourself.

In order to better enjoy these products, I'd recommend using a scooping instrument (a plastic spoon or something similar) and clean them between uses. For myself, I use a Japanese wooden spoon. Not only will you be able better control the oil vs. granules ratio of the Body Polish, but the product will last longer if you don't touch it directly with your fingers. I learned this the hard way and had my first jar go rancid in 4 weeks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome scrub, but $60+?!? Well maybe..., June 13, 2008
This review is from: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish (Misc.)
A few things:

A) It's a good scrub - the reason being is that like everyone else says, it's VERY moisturizing. I don't need lotion for 2 days after, and my skin is average-dry.

2) It will make your shower a MESS. Yes, the amazing moisture comes from tons of OIL, so watch out. You will need to at least spray your shower down after, if not wipe it. But they are nice oils...

C) The consistency to me is, eh. I think I prefer sea salt because of the finer consistency. The sugar is quite clumpy and large globs will fall off as you're using it - normally no biggie, but considering each glob is worth like, seventy-five cents! Which brings me to:

4) $65!!! SERIOUSLY! It took me months to finally splurge - the price is probably what piqued my curiosity in the first place! So one star off due to the ridiculous price. But a genius sales tactic.

I'd recommend it as a splurge, but a medium-priced scrub and nice lotion/body oil afterward is pretty much the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me feel touchable!, July 24, 2007
This review is from: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish (Misc.)
I LOVE this body polish. It works great to exfoliate my skin and acts like a moisturizer too. It has a sweet, lemony scent that I really like and it's not to harsh to rub in as long as you don't use it every day. I love it enough to use it that often, but it was a little much. I use it about once a week now. I feel so silky and smooth that I just love wearing clothes that expose my skin. I don't shy away from tanks tops and shorts anymore. I'm hoping someone will give me a hug or bump into me so they can see how soft my skin is! I just love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little pricey, but an excellent scrub @}->---, October 21, 2008

Fresh make beautiful products. I use quite a few of them, and as far as body exfoliants go, this is one of the nicest and best smelling out there. It is a little pricey, but it lasts a long time and you don't need to use a lot in one go.
It actually has real brown sugar in it and other natural ingrediants that make up a delicious scent. If you use it gently enough, you can (although shouldn't) use it on your face. I do that lightly, two times a week. The crystals aren't too abrasive and yet with the right pressure, they do a fantastic job. If you use this once-twice a week and follow it up with a good moisturiser, your skin will thank you. It's a great product (I can't get enough of the citrus type scent) and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is in a league all its own -- TEN STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish (Misc.)
Anyone that gives this product less than FIVE STARS is crazy~~~ if its not the BEST product you have ever used, Hell, I will buy it back from you!!!! Yes, its a little pricey but its worth EVERY CENT!!! I go through at least 2 tubs a month-- I started on the product when I was pregnant -- I dont have a single stretch mark and I gained 75 lbs!!! I am not saying its a stretch mark cream (I know sm's have a lot to do with genetics) but it takes your skin to another level --- as for the woman that said the scent/silkiness comes over with soap....well, NO KIDDING!!! Soap and clean first and THEN you use this product

ITS A MUST HAVE
