I'm on a mission to make every single recipe in this exquisite cookbook. The recipes are all light and fresh without the excessive use of nuts and oils seen in a lot of raw books or tofu and processed foods found in a lot of vegetarian books. Although this book isn't exclusively "raw" or "vegan" or even "vegetarian", it is thoughtfully put together for those who want to feel nourished and emotionally satisfied without feeling weighed down. I can't recommend it enough.

I absolutely love this beautiful work of art. It is nourishment at its finest. So often am I let down by vegetarian cookbooks that focus so much on grains, nuts, oils, and imitation meats-- not to mention the indigestibility of too many miscombinations. With every recipe I am wowed by the creativity, beauty and flavor, but also the simplicity.

This cookbook has something for everyone; plenty for me (a vegan) and my clients (of all walks of life). I am delighted to see these two talented ladies combine nutrition with such culinary skill. The Fresh Energy Cookbook will inspire even the most skeptical that Mother Nature is beautiful, and so can they enjoy a life of abundance, even beyond the plate.

While I haven't tried any of the recipes in this book yet, I did read it from cover to cover. (I'll provide an update to this review after I try a few of the recipes.)

I liked how the first half provided a lot of information about the importance of clean, wholesome and natural foods and how a clean diet can help with detoxifying your system. Organic, marketplace foods are what should be consumed. Foods that should be avoided are also discussed.

I think there are a few obstacles that might make these recipes difficult for some people to follow:

--The availability of the clean foods, depending on where you live (ie: raw, unpasteurized sheep/goat cheese -- the only cheese that is part of the clean diet)
--Cost of buying fresh, organic ingredients
--You need certain gadgets at home in order to make some of the recipes (ie: a juicer, since most of the recipes call for different fresh juices, such as celery juice; a dehydrator machine to make kale chips; a potato ricer; a spiralizer to make homemade vegetable "spaghetti" since pasta should be avoided; )

This book provides useful information for those interested in learning about clean eating, but may be best for people who are already practicing this type of lifestyle.

I would first like to say, that I cannot express enough gratitude for the information within these pages... I've been living this detox/cleansing lifestyle for a little under two years now... It has not only transformed my life but the lives of all of my family members (4 children ranging in ages 19 - 5 years) as well as many around us, who are gravitating towards the obvious signs of wellness that we exude both inside and out!! Doris Choi & Natalia Rose are spearheading a revolutionary awakening in the understanding and application of "complete & cellular" health... I have prepared and consumed most of the recipes in this beautiful book and can say without hesitation that they are all fulfilling and delicious!! From the bottom of my heart I thank you ladies for masterminding this effort to awaken all of us to our potential of complete health and beyond! Bravissimo!!!

This cookbook has renewed all my enthusiasm for clean eating, I cant put it down! A variety of perfectly combined raw and cooked detox meals, perfectly presented and perfectly delicious! I cant recommend this highly enough for anyone who is remotely interested in health and eating well.

The Pros - visually appealing recipes involving a large number of fresh, colorful vegetables. The recipes appear to celebrate the ingredients, instead of trying to imitate something else, as was mentioned by other reviewers. It is not full of imitation meat and attempts to create vegan versions of cream. This is the reason I ended up buying the book, although other aspects of it turned me off.

The Cons - there are assertions in the first part of the book that attempt to give "scientific" legitimacy to Natalia's nutritional beliefs. Yet, I have a hard time getting past her assertions to the effect that "many people think vinegar is acidic, but it actually alkalinizes the body." Vinegar is acidic, period. Cells require a near neutral pH and either raising or lowering the pH is harmful, hence the trouble people have when their kidneys fail. It seems that the contradiction between her belief that people need to alkalinize their bodies, and that vinegar is thought to be healthy, is resolved by simply trying to say that vinegar actually is not acidic, instead of reexamining the assumptions behind the belief.

I tried two of the recipes- both were beautiful and vividly colored. The roasted beet dressing was pretty tasty on its own as a puree, but it did not perform well as a salad dressing. The Thai Basil slaw with creamy sesame dressing was good, but needs to be consumed completely as it developed a strange taste after refrigeration as a leftover. Overall, I prefer the flavor of the raw kale and spinach green smoothies from the NutriBullet blender system. So get this book if the recipes appeal to you, and the bright colorful foods full of vitamins and phytochemicals lift your energy levels, but don't believe everything that is written.
