5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for thriller lovers, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
I picked up the book last Wed before heading to the beach. I couldn't put it down once I started--which resulted in mild sunburn. North does a great job writing a novel that reads like a movie. I could picture the scenes and characters in my head--just like watching a movie. The plot is excellent with many ingenious twists and turns. With America's obsession with celebrities, it makes you wonder if this story line could really happen...or maybe already has.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Suprising Ending!, February 25, 2009
By
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
Fresh Frozen was a very interesting book. Not only did it go into the
field of medical technology, but it also included a spy and a murder. In
Fresh Frozen, Dr. Van Deman owns an Infertility Center in Mississippi.
Tinker Murtagh is the spy I mentioned, but who would need to spy on an
Infertility Center and who hired him? Police Officer Sarbeck and his
wife are desperate to have a family; can Dr. Van Deman help them? And
then there are the wealthy mystery women. Why would 2 women who have
everything need Dr. Van Deman's help? What is the good doctor really
doing within the center besides making money? And who will die?

The intrigue continued as I turned each page and watched the characters all come together forming the story of Fresh Frozen. I was so involved in this book that I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Fresh Frozen is different from most books I've read. In most books, no matter what the genre, the characters are introduced and "join" each other early in the book. Not in this case. Each character is been introduced with little connection to the others. As you go along, you read the stories that make up the characters, you get to know them and their problems and all of this comes before the real connections are made. It's like a jigsaw puzzle without a picture. You know all of the pieces fit and can't wait to see what the end result will be. I found Fresh Frozen to be very different as well as quite refreshing to read.

And the ending... I would NEVER have guessed the turn of events that
make up the last 20 pages of Fresh Frozen. The hiring of the spy will
surprise you and the murder will surprise you even more. So if you love
a good mystery, this book is definitely for your.

Fresh Frozen is a great book that I highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story--Masterful storytelling!, December 29, 2008
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
FRESH FROZEN by Darden North, MD is easily one of the best books I've ever read. The twists are expertly crafted, the characters are believable and the plot is enthralling! I love a book where the author takes me to uncharted territory--Dr. North does just that! In FRESH FROZEN, the reader is taken into the territory surrounding infertility and the measures some people will take to end a painful chapter in their lives.

Dr. North explains procedures the reader needs to understand, but not in so much detail as to be superfluously boring. If anything I was intrigued by his descriptions!

There were a few times in reading this novel where I wondered how these aspects of the story were going to come together. Dr. North did not let me down. When he brought them together, it all seemed flawless--a masterful job!!

This story had it all! I cried sometimes, laughed out loud sometimes, scratched my head in wonder a few times and then got an ending I did NOT see coming! It was a great read and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different.

One word of warning though: Do not get cocky reading this one. Just when you THINK you have it all figured out, you find out you couldn't have been more wrong!

A great story told by a master storyteller! Thank you Dr. North and I look forward to future books!

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT!, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
Wesley, and Carrie are the perfect couple, happily married. Their love
is one that lights up life itself that would make every loving couple
in today's world crave to follow in their footsteps. However, there's
one exception in their life together that makes their dream incomplete,
the burning desire to have a family. They begin to feel like outcasts
in the baby-booming era that spreads throughout the United States.
As a last hope in desperation, they are introduced to a woman who
educates them on the human embryo, and egg donors, but the price tag
is her top priority. The Sarbeck's find themselves on the verge of
bankruptcy, and in the middle of a murder plot. Then, they are
introduced to the world of Hollywood celebrities, and a heist of fresh
human embryos. Carrie nearly lost her life, and her beautiful dream
that's shared with Wesley turns into a nightmare. Reproductive
Technology becomes a horror, and ethical and moral standards crossed
the boundaries with the law, becoming nonexistent in this extraordinary,
realistic medical thriller. How far will the Starbeck's go during
their quest to be parents? Does their intimacy force them to be
ignorant of their own actions, while blind to the consequences? During
the unexpected trials and tribulations, does a controversy exist
between the gifted hands of man, and God's hands? Does Wesley, and
Carrie walk through the forbidden doors of infertility to erase the
pain that torments them everyday? I recommend "Fresh Frozen" to all
thriller lovers, to medical professionals, and to all those who are
knowledgeable on infertility. I also recommend it to reader's who
crave the inside scene of Hollywood celebrities. In his third medical
thriller, award-winning author Darden North takes the reader on an
emotional rollercoaster ride that covers every human emotion in
medical history while we travel through a world of deception, murder,
and tragedy. "Fresh Frozen" is a Masterpiece, crafted by an expert
who created an enthralling plot with characters that come to life, and
suspense that sends chills up your spine. This incredible story,
packed with ingenious twists-and-turns is one indeed that belongs on
a movie screen. This medical thriller is Brilliant, and is as chilling
as "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" with Annabella Sciorra, and
Rebecca De Mornay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great medical mystery novel!, July 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
Dr. North has again succeeded in writing a wonderful medical mystery. I used to work in the department of a medical center that does IVF, and this novel contains a lot of realistic background material. The relationships of the characters and the plot keep you hanging until the end. I am looking forward to Dr. North's next novel, which I understand is in progress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Procreation, Not For The Timid, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
Doctor North takes the reader deep into the extremes that frustrated people will go to have a child of their own. He sent me to my medical dictionary a couple of times, but checking to make sure I knew what were being told was worth the effort,
FRESH FROZEN is told within the mind of each character, matter how insignificant to the conclusion.
This isn't a "whodoneit" with an obvious antagonist, but a story well told about people with little insight into their own actions or the consequence there of.
Reserve some time for this one, because it will keep nagging at you until you finish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darden North delivers another crossover masterpiece, November 21, 2008
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
One thing I have come to believe with a book penned by author Darden North is that you should expect the unexpected. In Fresh Frozen he pushes the envelope further in his career with a novel that takes us into the most intimate experience a couple could experience together and shows what happens when the gifted hands of man try to replace the all-powerful hands of God. Rife with conflicts that cross moral decisions and emotional rollercosters that travel all imaginable feelings, this is one that will be read throughout the South with pride but across the world with respect and enjoyment. A job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Darden's 3rd book, October 21, 2008
This review is from: Fresh Frozen (Hardcover)
As with his other two books this is spellbinding. For those of you that might want to collect first editions, I suggest you snap up any of his that you can find, not only are they great books but in my opinion he is the next 'JOHN GRISHAM' Both of them happen to be from Mississippi. I have to admit I am a bit partial since he is my Doctor but I really think you will love his books if you are into mysteries.
