musical, funky, fun....,
By Lew Peterson (Boise, ID United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fresh Goods (Audio CD)
Absolutely one of the best mixes of styles and musicality I've heard in a long, long time. 'The Tao of Grove' uses contemporary beats, jazz, funk, electronica.... jez, I don't even know how to explain it but, it is 'some kinda' PLEASING!It is so nice to see this kind of effort and risk - because it isn't just some repetitive formulary... you know, one song sounds like the next, sounds like the next. As I write this I have heard a Victor Wooten type of bass thump, a Janet Jackson sort of pop number (the good kind), a driving beat blues number with an interesting funk undertone (and a howling wolf knock off). And they do all of this and more in their own way - and very well. All I can say is this music is refreshing and welcome; the energy flowing out of this album is positive, sophisticated and just plain fun. Make more - soon.

Eclectic Mix,

An excellent mix of sounds and styles. If you like things like the old Newhouse label then you will probably find this very satisfying. I have had it in my car for awhile now.
