5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Scruff meets an ambient dub excursion in scratchappyland, September 29, 2000

This review is from: Fresh Produce (Audio CD)
Definatally an album of two halves. It starts with the sound very much associated with NINJA TUNES. Laid back jazz samples, scratching, amusing samples and nice fat hip hop beats. V.nice. Then after the third track the metamophasis dub wise begins. "Ever since I was a kid..." is an absolute corker of a track which leads brilliantly into his cover of FRANK CHICKENS "we are ninja". The highlight has to be the tracks "Tubb story" (reference to king tubby dub pioneer???) and "phionix dub" which rattle you with nice fat dub basslines and brilliantly built up abstract beats. SUPERB!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Schizophrenic daydream beats, June 17, 2000
This review is from: Fresh Produce (Audio CD)
Fink may hail from the trip-hop capitol of the world, but the playful mood of Fresh Produce stands in stark contrast to the grim aesthetic favored by Bristol's better-known electronic auteurs. Fink stretches the beats and pushes the groove into muscular electro territory. The results are never short of humor and groove.

Honestly this is one of my favorite Ninja Tune/NTONE releases. A perfect mix of hip-hop, dub, and jazz...but some how extremely unique. It seems that there is so much generic down-tempo stuff out right now, but Fink is head and shoulders above the rest. It's too bad this album did not get much promotion in the states, I assume it did much better in the UK. Don't sleep...peace,
