3.0 out of 5 stars the fresh start divorce recovery workbook
I didn't realize that it was faith based and some of the content didn't pertain to my belief system. But it does have very practical advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook, May 24, 2000

Divorce devistated me. I went into deep depression. I began this workbook, and after 1 chapter, it became my lifeline. I couldn't stop working in it. It gave me hope. I thought, by the title, that it was going to help me recover my marriage. Instead, it helped recover me - as a person. I have gone back to some of the exercises 2 years later, and have noted amazing results. No longer was that bitter, distressed person (who wrote in that workbook 2 years earlier) in me. My answers were different now, my feelings were different, I had gone on. I recommend it to anyone who truly wants to recover from the devistation of divorce. Marriage is like glueing two pieces of paper together, divorce is like ripping those two pieces of paper apart. Some of the glue and paper from his sheet is stuck on you and visa-versa. This book helped me see which pieces were me, allowing me to tear the other pieces off!

5.0 out of 5 stars The single best book on divorce recovery availlable today., June 3, 1997
By A Customer
Writen by a former pastor who went through the pain and tramma of a divorce, this book is the most difinative work on the subject. Perhaps the most incurraging aspect of the book is that the reader will find that most of the feelings they are experiancing are not uncommon for anyone going through a divorce. The Book will outline the different stages of the recovery process from shock, denial, anger and depression to acceptance, recovery and eventually forgivness.

This book is actually a workbook with questions that help the reader asses what stage they are at in the process and identify feelings and emotions. The book is also used very sucessfully as a guide for divorce recovery and support groups

If you are going through a divorce this is a must read. If you have a friend or loved one who is going through this ordeal, this is the best gift you could give them.

This book saved my life

5.0 out of 5 stars uplifting, November 5, 2001

This review is from: The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook: A Step-by-Step Program for Those Who Are Divorced or Separated (Paperback)
A wonderful and useful tool to gage your recovery. It shows you're not alone in what you're going through and that divorce can happen to anyone. The exercises are wonderful and inciteful. If you're going through a divorce and you're wondering, "will this ever end" this at least gives you something tangible to gage your progress by. It also helps you find coping mechanisms to deal with feelings and thoughts.. Wonderful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put, THE best!, November 29, 2003

This review is from: The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook: A Step-by-Step Program for Those Who Are Divorced or Separated (Paperback)
I am doing both DivorceCare (www.divorcecare.org) at a local church and this book in private. I read a number of books when my divorce hit and found them all to be very helpful.

However, this workbook is exceptional. Simply put, it is THE best source of healing and closure that I have found outside the "live" DivorceCare sessions that I attend - after all, a book can't hug you and listen to you emote can it?

In the weeks that I can been unable to attend DivorceCare due to business travel this book has been my source of strength and healing during a very difficult time. It has been my lifeline!

I hope that this review has encouraged you to take some action in starting the divorce recovery process. I waited too long to begin - I sincerely hope that you are wiser than I was and begin the process now by getting and (most importantly) working through this workbook!

God bless us one and all!

I bought this book so I could get some emotional help as I go through my current divorce..... I have had it for a couple weeks now and a near 6 year marriage ended 2 months ago..... If anyone is in any type of situation like this,, I recommend this book.. Questions such as: How did you know when the relationship was 'really' over? Who all are you angry at right now? What did your spouse do? What have you done to contribute to the current situation? How have you tried to keep the relationship together even when you knew it was over....... basically, questions that make you admit the truth to yourself so you can heal and grow from this and go on to enjoy your life... During the lonely days and nights, and times I don't want to answer the phone, this book is a Godsend!

Doesn't matter whether you are separated or divorced, this is handy at any point in the process. Easy to read, plenty of questions for notes that you can reflect on later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting A Handle on the Earthquake of Divorce, May 20, 2007
This review is from: The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook: A Step-by-Step Program for Those Who Are Divorced or Separated (Paperback)
My own divorce hit me like an earthquake: my whole world shook apart and then collapsed. I was left to raise two sons on my own.

I found this book soon after the divorce and was immediately comforted by the well-organized approach to the problems I was facing. This book helped me structure my life and gradually, get back on track.

Well-written, very practical, this book takes you step-by-step through the major things you are already dealing with --- or soon will be.

Dr. David Frisbie (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook: A Step-by-Step Program for Those Who Are Divorced or Separated (Paperback)

Let's face it: divorce often catches us by surprise, and it always changes many things about our daily life. More than just the loss of a partner, we find ourselves confronting brand-new challenges and dealing with things we never expected. For some of us, it's just too much: we can't handle it.

This author (not the radio host Jim Burns) is a minister who himself went through the experience of divorce. Out of that experience he gathered some of the most useful ideas and successful strategies that helped him and have helped others also. The result is a highly readable book.

You'll find good help here, especially if you're struggling to keep things together and trying to figure out what your priorities should be. Well-written and helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Christian, July 19, 2004

This review is from: The Fresh Start Divorce Recovery Workbook: A Step-by-Step Program for Those Who Are Divorced or Separated (Paperback)
As the other reviewers have already said, this is a good book. It is very Christian oriented, however. For instance, the "building self esteem" essay basically tells you to turn to God for self esteem, and that it is Satan that is trying to keep you down. Seriously. I also do not recommend this if you have had a lot of therapy. But that is true of most self-help books. Having said that, it is still a very good book, and helpful if you are in a lot of pain and need to think things through.
