Fresh Step Scoopable Unscented Cat Litter

Tried about everything this seems to be the best litter for allergies/sensitive adults and sensitive cats. Odor elimination is the best. This is by far the best cat litter I've ever used. Fresh Step is the leader in this field.

I think I have to update this. This is great Cat Litter but it seems like the dust factor is getting worse and worse. I don't think I can use it anymore just for this reason. I've used it for years and the dust from it gets about everywhere now and once poured it settles on everytthing in the room and it's not like regular dust, it's nasty black clay dust. Although it's good for sensitive people and it's super low tracking abilities I have to move on. I've started using Tidy Cats Power Blend and as it tracks a small amount more, it's 98% dust free. I can't say the same about Tidy Cats Small Spaces though, that stuff didn't seem to clump or work well at all but the Power Blend is working pretty well. It's got kind of a scent to it but it'a not overpowering and is not affecting allergies.

This is amazing!! I can't even smell the box after my cat uses it. What an amazing product.

Several years ago I tried Fresh Step a few times and didn't really like it because it wasn't controlling urine smells well and it was too "perfume-y". But recently I had a good coupon for this Fresh Step without dyes/perfumes, so I decided to give it another try. And it works Great! I was really surprised!

Good odor control, good clumping, and the perfume-free option is exactly what I'm looking for! I can't say that it's completely dust-free, but it kicks up less dust than some other brands I've bought. There's a popular brand out there (the one made w/ baking soda) that has been super-dusty the last several times I bought it -- so bad that my cats were sneezing after using the litter box! Anyway, it seems like Fresh Step may have changed the odor-absorbing part of their formula in the past year or so. Maybe it's the "activated carbon", although at first I thought that was just a gimmick. They also have a customer loyalty thing called Paw Points and you can earn little things like coupons or cat toys.

The only down side is that not everyone carries the fragrance/dye-free variety. If I haven't planned ahead to allow time for an online order to arrive, and if I don't have time to get to one of those stores that carry it, I have to settle for another brand. But this just serves to confirm my feeling that other brands really aren't as good.

The fact that you are considering a perfume and dye free cat litter tells me that you are concerned about the impact that the cat litter has on you and your cat's health, or that you at least don't want fragrance smells in the cat litter. This cat falls far short in both regards.

The only good thing about this cat litter is that it clumps well.

The bad things begin right with the "perfume and dye free" claim. This cat litter has a smell that you would swear is some sort of fragrance. It is a soapy sort of smell and your cat will stink of it. Eventually, your entire home will stink of it, because dust from this cat litter will travel all around your home. This has to be the dustiest cat litter that I have ever encountered. No matter how carefully you pour it into the box, a huge column of dust will rise into the air. Likewise, when your cat is digging in the box, before and after using it, a lot of dust will get kicked up. And this is where it presents a major health problem for your cat. Your cat will be sniffing the box and breathing this micro-dust deeply into his lungs while using the box. The dust will get all over his fur, and he will be licking it into his stomach.

This cat litter triggered asthma in one of my cats and one of the others vomited up a filmy, gray, mucus.

I can't say enough bad things about this cat litter. Just stay away from it and the rest of the Fresh Step clumping litters.

Fortunately, Amazon carries a cat litter that is much better, and probably exactly what you are looking for. Check out "Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Litter." Amazon has bags of it that qualify for free-super-savings-shipping, you will be much happier with it.

I used Fresh Step cat litter for many years and was quick to tell any of my cat owner friends that it was the best "bang for the buck" litter. It clumped hard, making the chore of cleaning the cat box a relatively easy one. Sometime around 6 months ago, that all changed. Now, it forms a sludge in the cat box that is nearly impossible to scrape out. The amount of effort necessary to clean the box could easily induce a muscle strain or hernia for those unfortunate enough to purchase this litter. Interestingly, after having this experience (twice, because I thought maybe I just got a bad batch the first time) I turned to Scoop Away which I always considered to be a similarly good product, only to find the exact same thing. What the heck? Turns out both products are made by the Clorox Pet products Co. Consider yourself warned!

Bought this because it was on sale, first time using it. I don't mind the smell. It clumps well enough, I suppose. What is killing me is the dust! You pour it and great plumes of dust erupt. You scoop it, and are similarly enveloped in a cloud of dust. Dust, dust everywhere! I feel like I need a hazmat suit to use this stuff, or at least a good air filter.

So, 2 stars for actually working as functional cat litter. But minus three stars for coating my entire house in a thick layer of cat litter dust.

Sent the wrong product twice and still waiting for a refund. Petco has poor customer service. Several phone calls to them blaming Amazon when it was Petco that was not fulfilling the order.

I ordered four boxes of Perfume and Dye free from Petco here at Amazon because I'm having a hard time finding it locally. I received two of the four boxes just now and they sent Odor Control, NOT Perfume and Dye free. It is not free of fragrance and my finicky cat is more inclined to use clean laundry rather than this litter. She uses the Perfume and Dye free just fine. Just a warning to anyone looking for Perfume and Dye free... the Odor control is not an acceptable substitute as it does still have a fragrance.

This seems to be my cat's favorite and I have to keep on good terms with him. Chas Moser

I've tried many kinds of litter, mainly because I used to buy whatever was on sale. This is by far the best litter I've tried. The litter itself has no smell and it eliminates the smell of urine and feces so well that sometimes I forget to scoop because I can't smell a thing! Don't bother with Arm & Hammer, Tidy Cats, or the petstore brands. Fresh Step is all you need!
