From things you already know about fishing to helpful hints and advise on baits, presentation, weather conditions and advise on many different species of fish. This book has been my bible to help me learn the facts of fishing that has taken many fishermen years to learn. Thank you Mr. Kugach.

Great little book. Its both a excellent introduction to freshwater fishing as a whole, and an indispensable pocket reference. Very approachable, well illustrated and no filler. No 'secret' fishing techniques, just whats been productive year after year.

This book is packed with useful information. It is fully illustrated and very easy to read. While reading this book, I frequently found myself thinking "hmm... that's interesting". My personal library contains many books about fishing, but this one is heads and shoulders above the rest. A true "must have" for any beginner, and an entertaining supplement for the experienced angler.

The book is well-written, with good illustrations. Easy to read for all ages. This is particularly helpful for families that may be just starting to learn to fish together, especially "city-folk". A great gift idea for the children or grandchildren !

I'm getting back into fishing after many years and have been reading up. I've read or examined maybe 20 different books in the past month. While there are a number of good books on freshwater fishing, this one is way out ahead of the others. It contains many detailed instructions for special techniques. The author is neutral regarding both type of fishing as well as brands of gear. If you like a lot of folksy fish tales, try some of the other good books. This one focuses on workable techniques -- many of them ingenious -- using easy-to-find equipment, materials and baits. I'm itching to put more of them into practice. The book is laid out in such a way that you can quickly get to the information that interests you. Lots of diagrams illustrate the methods described. If you buy only one freshwater fishing book, make it this one. If you're going to buy several, get this one first.

If you know nothing about fishing this is a great book and if you know a lot this book will fill in the things you missed or no one ever told you.

This book covers just about every topic that a novice to intermediate fisher(wo)man could wonder. I have found it especially useful for fishing in the midwest. I consistently keep a copy in my car for reference.

I purchaced this book a couple of years ago. Its a multi-species book oriented to give out a large number of tips consisely. Its shows multiple knots, rigs, baits and tips for every species. It doesn't have a story..or jokes..its just a tip based book. At the time of this review these books are selling CHEAP! Do yourself a favor buy one. Even if you know alot of this stuff, its really gets your imagination going as you thumb through its pages.

I bought two, one for me, and one for my friend. Both of us are new to fishing. We enjoyed the books examples, techniques and advice.
