Book Description

0962477001 978-0962477003 April 10, 1983 Revised
Volume I of the series precisely explains the pattern organization of the guitar's fretboard which results from the instrument's unique tuning. All music played on the guitar, in a sense, gets filtered through the fretboard matrix of strings and frets, so it is essential to have an understanding of how the playing area of the instrument works. It is the one area which will be common to all the others you will learn. Fretboard Logic teaches it both as a completely separate area of musical education and as a prerequisite for more advanced learning.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Bells rang. Lights flashed. A little siren went off - your system is so tight - it makes honest to God sense. --Jeffrey Ford

Volume I is indeed ingenious, and answered many questions for me that even my guitar teachers couldn't. Thanks again for the proper way to look at the guitar. --Chris McBurney

I have and frequently use, the first two volumes in this series. I have studied music at the university level and have played professionally for nearly twenty years and have never felt as clear about or confident with the guitar as I now do having applied your method. Many thanks. --Mark Lee

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!, January 2, 2006
This review is from: Fretboard Logic: The Reasoning Behind the Guitar's Unique Tuning (Plastic Comb)
I have been an on and off "try to learn the guitar" player for about 15 years. I received the box set for xmas. I have learned more in one week than I have in the last 15 years. This is simply brilliant. Yes, you can find some CAGED theory on the internet for free... But I have yet to find any useful CAGED scale theory. This is unbelievable. I am more excited about playing my guitar than ever before. It is totally like the light going on. Wow. I can't believe the things I have learned in the last week using volume I alone. I used to avoid songs that were tabbed with a capo... no problem finding the chord somewhere else now. I used to attempt 3 chord theory with a few chords... now I can goof off in any key anywhere on the fretboard and add some soloing to it as well. Awesome. I would give it 6 stars if I could. I have purchased many guitar books and videos... this blows them all away. I can't imagine anyone choosing to teach guitar any other way after trying this. I would recommend guitar teachers to check this out. I now feel like I am only limited by my physical skills... no longer is there a creativity or an understanding road block. I may buy this book for all of my guitar buddies.
Book two connects book 1 in a music theory way and allows modifications of the book 1 patterns according to traditional music theory (minors, sevenths, different scales.. etc.). If you have some basic music theory knowledge, book one will keep you busy being creative for a long time. The DVD seems pretty good for the "too lazy to read" people. I did purchase the entire box set, but I received more than I expected just from book I alone.
Brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, June 11, 2001

I wish I had this book when I first got a guitar.

It took some work to get through, but things are finally making sense. He teaches you the basic building blocks that will free you from rote memorization of chords & scales. I am just digging into volume 2 and right out of the gate he is already decoding some mysterious concepts that have baffled me.

I could not recommend this book/series more highly!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Diamond in the ROUGH, January 7, 2001

If you are looking to learn to play the guitar through self-study, then BUY THIS BOOK - the whole series, for that matter. Your purchase will prove useful as the series contains good information and I believe his instructional method for guitar is quite sound and pragmatic. However, do not expect a polished product, by even the most minimal retail standard. Edwards may rate an A as a guitar instructor, but he gets an F as an editor/publisher. The otherwise good pedagogical content is poorly organized/presented, and heavily peppered with off-topic digressions (many of which express significant negativity). From an editing/publishing standpoint, it is *really* awful. You will work very hard to wade through the organizational problems and distractions contained in this text, but the fundamentally good content will reward your efforts in the end if you have the determination.
