Product Description

Style: 1/16-Inch Radius Cove Router Bit with 1/2-Inch Shank

Product Description

Creates a smooth classic cove profile. Upward shear angle offers a more efficient, smoother cut. Shear angle allows the bit to slice wood similar to the way a craftsman uses a handheld plane. Application: Cuts all composition materials, plywood, hardwood, and soft wood. Use on hand-held and table-mounted portable routers.

From the Manufacturer

Freud cove bits have an upward shear angle for a more efficient and smoother cut. This shear angle makes the bit slice the wood similar to the way a craftsman uses a hand plane. Covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

I use this bit on hardwood moldings for kitchen installations and have found it to be well balanced with clean cuts and long lasting sharpness. Freud has been making bits forever and you always get your money's worth.

This bit is one of my favorites. It cuts cleanly and the profile looks great. I had used a Craftsman bit before which left an awful finish, but this bit left a smooth cove which requires no sanding. You can easily sand a cove cut using sandpaper wrapped over a dowel, but it's nice when you don't have to. I was afraid that the 1/4 inch shaft would cause problems, but it hasn't. If I replace it, the next bit will probably be 1/2 shafted, though as they are better. I feed red oak which it easily profiles in a single pass. I really couldn't be happier with the bit. It looks dramatic in 1" nominal (3/4" actual) thickness wood. What else would one expect from an Italian made cutting tool? In most estimations, Freud is second only to Whiteside in quality, which does not have the ant kickback design that the Freud bits do. If you are considering buying bits of questionable quality, ask yourself what you want spinning at 30,000 rpm in your shop. My face's safety merits good quality carbide.

I've made cove moldings all over the house with this. It's still going strong with no signs of letting up. I'm very pleased with it's performance.

I bought this bit to make cove molding (clearly) that would be used in combination with shopmade bullnose and rondover molding to make a type of crown molding for larger furniture projects. The cove molding turned out great (and so did the crown). It is a larger bit, so do take an extra pass or two to be safe. I have only routed about 20 feet of cove molding but the last inch was as smooth as the first, minimal sanding needed. No tear out, no burning, just smooth sailing with this router bit.

I haven't had the bit long, but I have put it through a few pieces of red and white oak, adding cove detail to corners of 12/4 stock. Grain direction didn't matter. This bit, with it's shearing action, cut the stock like butter. Truthfully some of the cleanest cuts I've had. It's a Freud bit, so the quality of the manufacture goes without saying. At the price point I paid, it was too good a deal to pass up.

Another great Freud product. This bit is actually rather large in diameter so a variable speed router is a must and it should be spun at 16,000 rpm or less I'd say for safety. Cuts are clean and the bit is well made as usual. The carbide is well polished and thick, which means a long life. Made in Italy.

I purchased this Freud bit for use on solid cherry. The profile was cut in a single pass with a 2 1/4 hp router. The cut was smooth, with no burning (common with cherry) or need for sanding.

We ordered two Freud router bits and once they arrived they were as expected and worked great. They have routed many, many trim boards and are keeping their sharpness.

Being lost for a couple of weeks in transit did no harm to the bits since they are very well packaged. Amazon sent replacements as soon as they learned the bits were lost in the Smart Post maze, and Amazon reportedly will be doing something to fix the Smart Post issues. The original order showed up about two weeks after it was originally expected to arrive, and the return process worked well for the original shipment.
