Freud do make some great router bits, and if you do any kind of template routing, this is the bit to have. Because of its length, it is best used in a router table, and in this mode you will be able to flush trim smoothly and accurately. The carbide cutting edges produce a very smooth, clean finish that rarely requires sanding to finish. A good flush trim bit is essential in a woodworkers shop, and this is the one I use and will continue to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trims things flush !!, January 10, 2011

This review is from: Freud 42-114 Bearing Flush Trim Bit 1/2 Diameter, 1/2" shank with TiCo Hi-Density Carbide (Tools & Home Improvement)
This Freud flush trim bit produces a clean cut without need for much sanding. The 1/2" shank gives appreciable stability during use. I have used it in a plunge router to complete cuts where my top bearing bit was not able to cut the full depth of the piece from the template. It will work for this purpose, but keeping the router level becomes a concern. Since the length of the carbide edge is cutting a good bit of wood at a time (1 + 1/2"), small bites are advisable, which is the case for any router usage. Router table use would allow some of the cutting edge to be hidden beneath the table. In limited use on red and white oak the cut quality was excellent. This bit should serve well for a long while, especially if only in hobbyist use.
