5.0 out of 5 stars Best quality for the price - here are the major brands compared!, March 6, 2008
This review is from: Freud 900-20 Size 20 Biscuit Splines - Bulk Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've used Lamello, Dewalt, Porter Cable and Freud biscuits. Dewalt isn't bad for the price but their quality tends to be a bit less consistent. Lamello are REALLY nice but pricey (I used to work in a shop where I could get them for free)

Porter cable are decent and made in the US, also more expensive. Freud biscuits do seem a hair thinner (or perhaps it's the Dewalt ones aren't as consistently compressed) but this isn't an issue since this makes them easier to jig up and should swell up once after the glue soaks in....

For quality I would rank:

Lamello
Freud 2nd
Porter Cable a close 3rd
DeWalt and Ryobi tied for 4th

Don't Forget! If you are using PU glue (Gorilla Glue, etc) then you will need to make sure you get the biscuits wet immediately before assembly otherwise they won't swell and your joint will not be as strong. When I used PU glue I would wipe them with a wet (not damp) rag just before assembly.

I'd also point out that you can get no name biscuits for cheaper sometimes but you're probably not saving much if you're already buying in bulk....There's also a false economy of saving a few dollars in materials if you consider any additional time needed from working with poor quality materials.

I agree with the other reviewer. I used to use PC, Bosch, whatever was at the local store. Lots of biscuits ended up on floor: about 40-50%.

These biscuits from Freud are much better. Much better fit and only about 5-10% get tossed. I did also buy the Lamello biscuits, which seem even better on inspection, but haven't used them yet. Course, they are twice the price.

Will never buy PC, Bosch, or Dewalt biscuits again. Though I really like my PC biscuit joiner.

Having used the Porter Cable biscuits for many years I thought I'd try these just see if I was missing anything. Under close inspection they appear to come from the same machinery and are made of the same wood. I see no meaningful difference and would not pay a premium for the Freud name.
