4.0 out of 5 stars Quality blade but has problems on some PorterCable joiners
This is a very high quality blade that is chrome plated and has some major carbide on the teeth. The body of the blade is a little thinner than the Porter Cable blade I was replacing, so I had to add a washer to get the arbor to grip it. The teeth are the normal thickness so it cuts the proper biscuit size.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blade too thick
The blade I received is too thick (teeth too wide) resulting in the bisquits not fitting tightly - Others had this problem?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, July 8, 2010
This review is from: Freud FI102 Replacement 4-Inch 8 Tooth Blade For Freud And Other Biscuit Joiners (Tools & Home Improvement)
My Porter Cable 557 biscuit joiner was still sporting the original OEM blade from the late '90's, and when in use it was tough to plunge into the wood and always burnt the edges. It was well past time.

I bought this blade purely on Freud's name. Most of my table saw blades are Freuds and I'm familiar with how they handle grinding their teeth.

The FL102B that showed up was a marvel right out of the box. The carbide teeth are nearly twice the mass of the OEM blade, and they're face, top and side ground in a very similar manner as their table saw blades.

However, the installation onto the PC 557 required a few minutes' modification of the tool, itself. The body of the Freud blade is about 128" thinner than the body of the OEM blade. When the retaining flange and screw were installed and snugged the blade still spun freely.

I had to get out a Dremel with a stone burr and grind down the top face of the spindle by that 128th of an inch (about as much as the thickness of a human hair - so it's no big deal - honest!) in order to make the blade body sit ever so slightly prouder than the spindle. That required mod took about two minutes. I was then able to get the blade to sit tightly when the flange/screw were reinstalled.

In use - this thing cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter. Freud really knows what they're doing with their tooth grinds. I tested in several wood species and several man-made products and this thing plunged very easily and left clean slots.

WELL worth the money to make an easier life with your plate joiner. Just have a calipers handy to compare your OEM blade's body thickness as compared to the Freud's body thickness to ensure a happy life.

I'd make this purchase again in a heartbeat.

If you think the original blade is great wait until you try this. Any type of hardwood is like child play for this blade. The extra teeth make a huge difference. Highly recommended.

This item is an original manufacturer product. Replacements are hard to find locally, and if found are more expensive.

This biscuit cutter blade is by far better than Porter Cables, and much cheaper. It is a little thinner where it mounts, but it can be shimmed easily.

This is a nice cutting tool. It installed and cut very easily and cleanly. It was sharp and ready to work right out of the package. As part of an odd job, I actually used it to score cut some baseboard molding and managed to nick a few nails in the process. Even after that, this blade still moves wood. Haven't tried any other brands for comparison, but this one works just fine. Would buy another.

I used this blade to replace the stock blade on a house branded joiner from a big box store. The OEM blade was not too sharp out of the box and really burned the wood badly along with bogging the joiner down when plunging. The Freud blade cuts like a dream. No burning and the RPM barely changes when plunging. It turned a questionable tool into a useful one!
