Versatility and Electronic Speed Control
An excellent pick for hobbyists or professionals doing artistic work, the heavy-duty FJ85K Jigsaw showcases an electronic cruise control feature that keeps cutting speeds constant under different work loads. This allows the saw's powerful 6.0 Amp motor to handle even tough projects, like cutting through hard knots, without getting bogged down or making the saw difficult to control.

This variable speed jigsaw can deliver anywhere from 500 to 3,000 strokes per minute for increased versatility. It also accepts the broad selection of Bosch-type shank blades that are available (sold separately). Its four orbital settings allow you to set up the saw for making clean, accurate cuts in different kinds of materials.

The FJ85K also features the tool-free, quick-fix blade change system. This allows you to easily change blades, helping you make the most of the available blade types and to ensure that you get back to work quickly if your blade dulls or breaks.

Smart Features and an Easy-to-Handle Design
Delicate work pieces demand special attention, and this jigsaw makes sure that your work surface stays intact and looking its best by employing a non-marring base attachment with a special anti-splintering insert that prevents scratching and damage.

An ergonomic top-handle design makes the saw easy to maneuver, and it is well-balanced at just 5.4 pounds to help combat user fatigue. Plus, when the job at hand is completed, you'll appreciate the way the saw's built-in dust collection port makes cleanup quick and easy.

This Freud power tool is backed by a limited one-year warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch Killer, December 11, 2002
This review is from: Freud FJ85K 6 Amp Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
My bosch died after many years of good service and I replaced it with the Freud based on my good experience with their Plunge Router and Biscuit Joiner I depend on daily. I couldn't be happier with the performance. I think people that have had issues with the blade change were overthinking it. Even though I felt I had thoroughly mastered the Bosch blade change I am awed at the simplicity of the Freud. You just push a lever over, insert the blade and release the lever. It's almost too simple. The trigger did take a little getting used to because it's electronic but the difference is worth it. I can dial in the speed and pull the trigger and the speed won't change no matter how hard I push or how thick and hard the wood is. This one's a keeper and a great bargain, too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worst of the "High End" saws!, June 11, 2002
This review is from: Freud FJ85K 6 Amp Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've used a lot of different jig saws over the years. From Black & Decker to Bosch. Have to say that the Freud FJ85 was one of the worst I've ever used.

Fairly well made? Yes. That's probably the only reason I gave it two stars. Trigger was mushy, didn't have the "crisp" feel of a good trigger switch. Didn't like the blade retention system at all. Bosch and Morse blades both hard to get inserted all the way in the barrel. Cutting guide was so far off it was pathetic.
Last of all, during cuts the saw tracked somewhat sideways like a car with a bent frame! Really skimpy manual, too.

I've used several Freud tools over the years with good results, but this saw is not a "keeper"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product at excellent price, December 5, 2002

Marc "Marc" (Toccoa, Georgia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freud FJ85K 6 Amp Top Handle Jig Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife gave me this saw for my birthday 3 months ago. I have since had occasion to put it through its paces. I could not be more pleased with it. The blade lock system is an absolute breeze to use. It snaps in easily and is gripped firmly. I found the unit to be quite well balanced also. The saw has a great deal of power and cuts through various hardwoods with no effort at all. I could not be more pleased, this saw is on par with the Bosch and PC both of which are far more.
