5.0 out of 5 stars freud new rip blade
I build custom furniture and am always looking for a smoother cutting blade. I have all the older freud blades as well as several forest blades and a couple of Olden. This new blade rips smoother than any of them. The Forest woodworker II has been the best until this one. On my saw at least, this blade is noticeably smoother than the Forest. And a whole lot cheaper! I...

2.0 out of 5 stars very dissapointed
Freud LM74M010 10-Inch 30 Tooth TCG Glue Line Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating
After reading all of the reviews for this blade I was very impressed with the recommendations of those who used it. I had been contemplating purchasing the Forrest blade as I do a lot of hardwood glue ups in my particular woodworking projects. When I...

I have all the older freud blades as well as several forest blades and a couple of Olden. This new blade rips smoother than any of them. The Forest woodworker II has been the best until this one. On my saw at least, this blade is noticeably smoother than the Forest. And a whole lot cheaper! I don't think the red (teflon coated) would be worth 50% more. The build up I get is right on and behind the carbide teeth and not on the blade. I know the coating is supposed to make the blade run cooler, but that is a tough one to track. This is a nice blade.

This blade rips out a surface so smooth you can almost use it as a mirror. The manufacturer only claims it is fair for crosscutting, but it gave a beautiful, smooth crosscut when I tested it that way. It's also pretty fast, so I decided to leave it on the table saw and use it for cross- and miter cuts as well as ripping.

This is the best rip blade for 4/4 or less stock I have ever used. Though not as fast as the LM72, it isn't supposed to be, and it is much faster and more efficient than using a combo blade. The edges never need a run through the joiner--in fact, I like the edge better. Quiet and smooth. I will change to it for just a single rip. I do, however, like the red one better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cuts Great Prices, November 6, 2004

After several cheaper and some more expensive saw blades, I finally bought the LM74 glue line rip blade for $44.00 +/- on Amazon. The rips are so smooth and burn free. They really did give me a glue line rip. I ordered the uncoated blade because I didn't want any coating transfer, and it turned out to be over $20 cheaper than the coated blades :). Truly excellent blade for the money!

This is by far the best ripping blade I have ever owned. I dont own a joiner so I depend on a good ripping blade on all my glue ups. I have never owned a Forrest blade but I find it hard to believe that it is any better than this Freud blade, and at less than half the price you can,t go wrong .

4.0 out of 5 stars Smooth cutting rip blade, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Freud LM74M010 10-Inch 30 Tooth TCG Glue Line Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and Silver ICE Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
Smooth cuts from a ripping blade is almost a contradiction of terms, but this one cuts smoothly enough to make mention of. It's not quite as clean as my 40T Forrest WWII general purpose blade or my Freud 60T crosscut blade, but it is clean enough to make good on the promise of glue line joints. The LM74 is a bit of a compromise between an aggressive 24T FTG ripping blade and a 40T ATB general purpose blade, offering cleaner cuts than the 24T and better ripping than the 40T. Because it's a full kerf blade, it does slow my saw a bit on thick stock > 2". The triple chip grind (TCG) carbide teeth have the most durable grind available, making it an excellent choice for laminate flooring, MDF, aluminum, and other tough materials that tend to dull blades. Wish it were available in a thin kerf.

5.0 out of 5 stars blade does what it promises, May 6, 2007
This review is from: Freud LM74M010 10-Inch 30 Tooth TCG Glue Line Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and Silver ICE Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased the freud blade to make jointing easier, based upon other reviews. It works. What I do is joint one side on the jointer and then, after ripping the board to slightly wider than the desired width, take a small cut off the non-jointed side. I may have to then turn the board over and take a small cut off the jointed side. Result: perfect glue line. Any tool which makes my work easier or more accurate is worth money to me.

I am a trim carpenter and cabinet maker and a good saw blade can make or break a job. I put this blade on my unisaw to rip up 800 feet of Hickory style material and this blade purred right through it. No hesitation, just quick cuts. Now i read some reviews that said jointing wasnt necessary. I would have to disagree. I still needed to joint. For a good ripping blade at a reasonable price, this one cant be beat.

Rips very smoothly in soft and hard woods and laminate flooring too. Cross cuts pretty good too. Got the LM74M010 on amazon for $31 last year. I prefer the plain blades, I haven't noticed any benefit with the red blades.

This blade performed as expected. I ripped several pieces of 5/4 cherry for glue-up to make table legs and found no visible glue lines. The ripping operation was a little slower than I would have liked which I believe was due to the lack of blade coating I'm used to on other Freud blades that I use. Other than that, the blade is worth buying.
