5.0 out of 5 stars Great blade but not from Rockler, May 2, 2011

There's currently (5/2/11) some sort of mismatch between the Amazon site and Rockler. For some reason, when you order this Freud blade (LU79R010) at the Amazon site with Rockler as the vendor, Amazon forwards the order to Rockler as their item number 26983, which is Freud's LU74R010. The LU79 is a thin-kerf plywood blade, but the LU74 is a thin-kerf crosscutting blade. Both are great blades, but you want to be sure you get the right one. I had to go 'round and 'round with Rockler customer service to get them to understand the error, and then she wanted me to pay return shipping. I don't know who's fault it is - Amazon or Rockler - and I don't care, but it wasn't my mistake. I can understand how these things happen, but it concerns me that Rockler customer service didn't seem the least bit interested in working with Amazon to fix the problem so it wouldn't affect other buyers. All I can do is warn you here. Again, this is not a negative review of either Freud blade - they're both outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great all around performance, January 3, 2009

This review is from: Freud LU79R010 Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blade 10 inch x 80t Hi-ATB 5/8 inch arbor Perma-Shield Coated (Tools & Home Improvement)
I build hardwood furniture for my home and love the way this blade performs on solid stock. The HIATB does an outstanding job on cross cuts and requires less feed force than my other blades. I would rate the rip performance better than Freud does, and I use it all the time in this capacity. When making my blade selection, I was a little unsure of the HIATB, having never owned one, but now I'm sold and would buy another. By design this blade does not leave a flat bottom cut - no raker teeth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothest cuts I've experienced..., May 19, 2011

This review is from: Freud LU79R010 Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blade 10 inch x 80t Hi-ATB 5/8 inch arbor Perma-Shield Coated (Tools & Home Improvement)
I installed this blade on my contractor saw to cut pieces of 3/4 inch oak plywood for an entertainment center project. It produced the best cuts that I've ever experienced. There was no splintering on rip cuts or cross cuts. It was much better than my Forrest Woodworker II. That blade is several years old, however, so if new or sharpened, its performance would likely be some better.

The blade came well packaged and arrived several days before Amazon estimated it would.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase!

Despite using Amazon for years, this is the first time I've been impressed enough with a product to review it. It is that good. (the other reviews are my wife's)

This is the first table saw blade I've ever seen with a mirror finish on the teeth. You actually need to be careful not to cut yourself during instillation. As for performance this baby delivers. I've been using this blade for Baltic birch plywood and melamine chipboard with no splintering or chip out. The only thing to watch out for is scorching if the piece is not fed past the blade at a constant rate. Now time will tell if it passes the next test, durability. Enjoy and watch your digits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless cross-cut on brittle plywood, January 6, 2011

This review is from: Freud LU79R010 Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blade 10 inch x 80t Hi-ATB 5/8 inch arbor Perma-Shield Coated (Tools & Home Improvement)
Thirty-nine years ago I made my first table-saw cross-cut on a sheet of Oak veneer plywood. What a wretched experience that was! I was using a brand new steel blade designed expressly for plywood. With the help of a more knowledgeable neophyte woodworker, I got through the project, producing a usable bookcase, but not one I would claim today. By today's standards, those cross-cuts looked like they could have been made with a chain saw .

I have tried through the years to find blades that would cleanly crosscut hardwood plywoods, with mixed success. I have tried other carbide blades combined with masking tape on the cut line, or scoring the cut with a razor knife, or both! My results improved with the added preparation, but those results were spotty, and it was a lot of extra work,

For Christmas this year, I received the Freud 80t HiATB Plywood & Melamine Carbide blade , and have tested it on Oak, Cherry and Mahogany plywoods. These plys have always been terrible about tear-out along the cut line when cross-cutting the veneer. (Especially the Oak and Mahogany). The results with this blade have been spectacular. The edges on both sides of the cut could not have been cleaner if cut with a scalpel. just for grins, I used a Loupe to examine the cut lines on the Mahogany (The absolute worst species for tear-out that I've encountered.) I was not able to detect a single wood fiber that was torn out by the cut!

And the price was certainly right for this good of a blade. It is a $36 savings on Amazon.

I'm sure the results will deteriorate as the blade dulls, but we'll see how much . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cabinet Plywood Saw Blade, June 25, 2008
This review is from: Freud LU79R010 Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blade 10 inch x 80t Hi-ATB 5/8 inch arbor Perma-Shield Coated (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was frustrated with how fast my steel plywood blades were wearing out cutting plywood, on a Shopsmith 520, so after reading the reviews I decided to give this blade a try. Although a little expensive, I agree with the other reviewers that this is one great blade. It produces clean, low shatter cuts in cabinet plywood. I did experience some burning on the fence side of the blade, but after several cuts it went a way. So far this blade has exceeded the life of two steel blades, but will have to produce quality cuts in excess of six standard blades to be more cost effective over the long haul. If it lasts I would buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freud blades are awesome!, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Freud LU79R010 Thin Kerf Ultimate Plywood & Melamine Saw Blade 10 inch x 80t Hi-ATB 5/8 inch arbor Perma-Shield Coated (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this thin kerf blade for my ancient 1-1/2hp Craftsman table saw after being so impressed with Freud's Freud D0724X Diablo 7-1/4-Inch 24 Tooth ATB Carbide Framing Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch and Diamond Knockout Arbor and it's six and a half inch cousin on my circular saws.

I can say I am impressed and have purchased the Freud LU87R010 10-Inch 24-Tooth FTG Thin Kerf Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating to compliment it.

At this price to quality ratio I am not even going to bother trying the Forrest Woodworker!

I do want to try the Freud LU84R011 10-Inch 50-tooth ATB Combination Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating! From the reviews it looks as I could have saved my money and just bought the one blade as well as saved myself time changing blades for each cut!

I've been in the process of renovating a foreclosure house I purchased and needed some new blades for my saws. I picked up this blade and have been blown away by the performance. They last a lot longer than many other blades you'll find and the cuts are smooth and even. Highly recommended.

Received this blade amazingly quickly. Mounted it on my SawStop Contractor saw. I used one of SawStops zero clearance inserts which I configured just for this blade. Ran cherry veneered 3/4" plywood through it. Absolutely no tear out whatsoever. All cuts were cutoff smooth. At this price, I don't see how you can go wrong buying this blade.

The blade made smooth cuts through 3/4" thick hardwood plywood. No additional preparation or treatment was necessary. I was able to proceed directly to joining and finishing without any additional work. Well worth the price paid.
