5.0 out of 5 stars as smooth as glass
I thought it was a crock when I heard this blade cut wood as smooth as glass...but! I was wrong dead wrong...it is like someone buffed the piece of wood I just cut, it was so smooth it was shinning. A definite must in your shop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Cuts!
Buy this blade! I put it in my Bosch contractors table saw with a zero clearance insert, and it makes the cleanest cuts I have ever seen. No tearout at all in 3/4" birch plywood crosscuts, and a glass smooth edge. Just as nice cuts in hardwoods, melamine and MDF. Freud makes the best bits and blades!

Unbelievable smooth cuts. If you see any tooth marks on the cut, your saw must be out of adjustment! I keep the trailing edge of the blade about 0.002" tapered away from the cut piece and get perfect cuts everytime on my Jet 3Hp saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Saw Blade - Worth Every Cent, May 12, 2002

This blade lives up to it's billing. It does cut as smooth as glass. If I had not seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. Pair this blade with the Freud blade stabilizer and you have a cutting combo for your table saw that is hard to beat. (I would recommend cleaning the blade every now and then. Pitch build up does reduce the smoothness of the cut.) Chalk up another one for Freud!

I had a good Delta blade on my Delta miter saw for almost 8 years. So I'm used to good blades. I work with all kinds of wood. Maple, Oak, Walnut, including plywood. This blade cuts it all great. No chips, splinters, and it is extremely sharp. You can hardly feel the blade hit the wood. The end grain cut is amazingly smooth.

I went and ordered a combo blade from Freud for my tablesaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb finish on cross-cuts, May 13, 2005

I've owned this blade for about 2 years, and it's incredible. If you're cutting stock that will have exposed end-grain and you want it to look great, this is the blade to use. It produces a polished (literally) finish on the ends of the board -- meaning there is absolutely no need to sand the end grain. I've found that this finish also means less differential stain uptake between the end-grain and the regular grain. Just a light touch of shellac will solve that problem!

Don't use this blade if you need the end-grain to hold glue for a joint. It's simply too smooth.

I've also used the LU85 for cutting thin plywood. Freud's catalog says it's OK up to 1" thick, but I prefer to use it only for 3/8" or less.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put your sandpaper away, November 1, 2003

I'm installing raised-panel wainscoating and needed a good blade to cross-cut/miter my base/top rails and cap as well as ripping stiles to width around window casing. This is an "engineered wood" material from New England Classic made with "natural wood veneers bonded to an engineered wood substrate". I originally attempted a miter/skirt cut in the 4" rail with the standard 60-tooth blade that came with my Delta compound miter saw. The result was jagged and chipped. I then switched to the Freud LU85 and presto, instant glass-smooth finish! Out of habit, I began to reach for a sheet of finish sandpaper and chuckled when I realized the cut was so finish-quality that it didn't need sanding, even with primer and a coat of paint on the finished side. Blow the dust off and it's ready to fit. Almost surprisingly, I produced the same results ripping 23" high stiles, too. Couldn't be happier with this professional grade blade and it's the best money I've spent for both my miter and table saw.

I'm just repeating what everyone else here has to say, but the redundancy is worth it. If you are crosscutting you have got to use this blade. I use it on my Bosch 4000 Table Saw. It leaves surfaces so glassy smooth that they could be used to calibrate scientific instruments. : )

This an excellent cross cutting blade. Also works fantastic in a miter saw. The finish it produces would be hard to improve on. Thought I would have to get a more expensive Forrest Woodworker I to get results this good. Absolute satisfaction in buying this blade!

I was given a very used miter saw that gave a pretty horrible cut. In looking for a replacement blade, it came down to this or the Forrest Chopmaster. I bought this based on the reviews, and because it was about half the price of the Forrest. I'm extremely pleased with the cuts this makes - no tearout, very smooth. I haven't seen any problem with vibration or excessive noise. Who knew the father of psychotherapy could also make a great sawblade?
