The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced saw blades in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools in the world that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud Industrial Blades
Freuds industrial series blades were designed for the serious woodworker. Available in a variety of styles for different applications, LU blades feature thick carbide tips, precision-tensioned bodies found in every Freud quality blade. Some LU blades include a red Teflon coating that helps reduce friction, heat build-up, and gumming -- which prolongs the life of the blade.
About this Thin Kerf General Purpose Saw Blade
This 10-inch, 40-tooth, thin kerf general purpose blade from Freud gives you ultra long life and excellent finish on both the top and bottom of laminates, melamines, and plywoods. The Perma-Shield permanent non-stick coating prevents heat build-up, gumming, and corrosion for long life. This blade's anti-vibration reeds practically eliminate vibration for clean, true cuts every time. The ideal working range is from 3/4 to 3-1/2-inches thick for crosscutting, and 1/4 to 1-inch thick for ripping. Thinner or thicker material may be cut, but some loss of surface finish may occur.
Applications
This blade is ideal for heavy-duty, general purpose applications. It rips and crosscuts wood, chip board, plywood, and laminates.
Warranty
This blade is covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

The LU86 does it all...,

This review is from: Freud LU86R010 10-Inch 40 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf General Purpose Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
In spite of a review that punishes this blade for a shipping issue, I ordered it based on my other experiences with Freud and their reputation for quality. I wasn't disappointed. This is a very good blade at a terrific price. Freud's "L" series offers a step up in quality from their Diablo and Avanti series. The large teeth are C4 micrograin carbide and are very sharp. They feature an alternating top bevel grind (ATB) and a fairly steep 15 degree hook angle that helps it rip well. The blade has anti-vibration slots and a Permashield coating.
I bought the LU86 as a back up to my Forrest 40T WWII TK. It cuts cleanly on a wide variety of cuts and materials, and rips well up to about 2" thick material. As expected from a general purpose blade, it'll handle alot of cutting tasks well, but does not cut as well in the extreme regions as a good dedicated blade will. The advantage is that it's versatile enough to leave in the saw for about 90% of my applications. I find it crosscuts well enough for my needs...nearly as cleanly as my Forrest, and rips easily through most of the stock I cut. I found the LU86 cuts cleaner than my LU84 did, and cleaner than my Leitz 40T and 50T blades. Neither of these blades rips as aggressively as my dedicated 24T TK ripping blade, so when ripping lots of material or very thick stock, I switch to a rip blade to save my saw's motor. The thin kerf on the LU86 is an excellent choice for saw's under 3hp. If you're looking for one good blade that doesn't break the bank, this one it's it IMHO. Great blade, fantastic bargain. 5-stars at this price.

Worth Every Penny!,
By Homer Hiccum (West Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Freud LU86R010 10-Inch 40 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf General Purpose Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
Even those who use a dedicated rip blade and a dedicated crosscut blade will occasionally need a good general purpose blade like the LU86, and I can think of no better value that's readily available than this 40T thin kerf Freud. And for those who prefer to use one blade for most cuts, this blade is a no nonsense blue collar workhorse. It's configured with smaller saws and versatility in mind, and delivers handsomely on that claim. It'll rip and crosscut well enough to leave in place for about 90% of the cuts I make. It makes cleaner cuts than a rip blade, yet can handle ripping chores that a crosscut blade can't. Only for heavy duty ripping of very thick hardwoods will I swap the LU86 for a dedicated rip blade. It cuts cleanly enough to use for nearly all crosscuts in hard and soft woods. It does well in most plywoods too, splintering only slightly on the underside.
The thin kerf body and shape of the teeth help this blade glide through tough woods even with average size saws. The body is stiff enough that it doesn't deflect at all even in thick wood and even without a stiffener. The hard carbide teeth should hold up well under heavy use, and are large enough to endure multiple sharpenings. It's backed by Freud's lifetime warranty. At Amazon's delivered price, it's only a few dollars more than many blades that don't perform anywhere near as well, and will hold it's own against many more expensive blades. An excellent choice for serious hobbyists who don't want to spend big bucks for a high-end blade. Highly recommended!

You get alot for a little...,
This review is from: Freud LU86R010 10-Inch 40 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf General Purpose Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a really nicely made blade with alot of versatility. It'll rip fairly thick stock quickly and cleanly...clean enough to go straight to a glue up off the saw, and it'll crosscut on hardwoods and plywood well too. It's excellent in a table saw, but has too steep of a hook angle for a miter saw or RAS.
I much prefer this blade over any the 50T combo blades I've tried, and it's far less prone to burning than a high tooth count dedicated crosscut blade would be. This is a must have workhorse that's a really good choice as a primary blade. It's also very reasonably priced.
