3.0 out of 5 stars Not as smooth as my Freud combination blade
It is a one trick pony, all it does is rip. I use it only to rip stock 1-1/2" or thicker, and it works well to rough size stock. I have to switch back to a combination blade to make a skim cut for final dimensioning. Otherwise it leaves blade marks that require too much sanding. I did not experience any burning with this blade.
Overall, if you only want one...

However, this blade made all the difference. I can rip 2" hardwood stock without bogging down or throwing breakers. Plus, the rip cut is very smooth. Highly recommended.

This blade will readily slice through full-height rips in hardwood, and give very good surface finish in rips or crosscuts. At least on a "2hp" universal-motor saw.

The hook and lead angles of the teeth are very aggressive, and seem to result in the one weakness of this blade- hitting ANY metal will chip teeth. Period. A tiny little staple will suffice to chip some.

This blade was recommended to me and I've had excellent rips with it. It goes through 2" oak without problems. I won't use my combo-blade for ripping because its worth it to swap out for this one. Highly recommended.

I've been using this blade now for one year and two month without sharpening . In this period I have ripped and resawn about 2000 bft of tropical hardwoods . The blade continues to give me perfect service . All i do is an occasional pitch cleaning with easy off . I don't think I will use any other blade again.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Blade for A Low Horse Saw, February 8, 2005

I've been using CMT blades for three years, and the one I use most is 40 tooth general blade with 1/8 kerf. It's done great jobs for me so far. But when it comes to cutting heavy stock such as 8/4 red oak or hard maple, my saw 'll definitely come to a halt. And by the way my saw is obviously a portable low horse. So I thought it's time for me to get upgraded. After reviewing bunch of saws and blades, I came across Freud's ads The Utimate Thin Kerf Rip Blade. I was just thinking perhaps I should give it a try. And the result was I didn't have to replace the saw. this blade can really go against anything I feed through. It produces nice and clean cuts as well as vibration reduction. Besides, jointing is unnecessary after the cut. The only reason why I should give this blade four stars is that mine came with a few factory defected carbide teeth. However, I 'd recommend this blade to anyone who own an under powered saw.

Have I compared this saw blade to every one on the market? No. But I am very satisfied with the purchase. I have a underpowered Bosch 4000 portable table saw. With the combination blade that came with the saw I could barely rip 3/4" cherry. It would leave horrible burn marks and take a lot of pressure to get it through. Not safe. After receiving this blade, I've ripped Cherry, Walnut, and Ash, up to 1". All cuts have been burn free, and its been much easier to get through. I'm also surprised by how much quieter it is. My wife even noticed and asked me why my saw was so much quieter when I came upstairs after testing it out. And remember... this is a RIP saw. It does not like to be used for crosscutting. I tried a crosscut just for experimentation... it was tough to get through and left burn marks. So don't try to use this as a combination blade. I paid $40 for it and was happy... I see now that it's $25. I was happy spending $40, so if you can pick it up for $25 I think you're getting a great bargain for it. Of course, when I originally put it in my shopping cart, the price was $25, but by the time I purchased it Amazon bumped the price to $40. I couldn't wait for it to go back down, so had to eat the extra $15. I love Amazon, but I'm getting tired of big price jumps after I put things in the cart and a day or two passes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed, December 31, 2006

I have a 1 1/2 HP Craftsman tablesaw that I originally bought to make cabinets and bookcases for my house. As my interests transitioned from cabinet making to furniture building, my saw didn't keep up. In particular, whenever I'd rip a piece of 8/4 hardwood to make table legs, it would always bind and trip the circuit breaker in my garage. I almost caved in and bought another table saw, but thought I'd try this saw blade. It turned out to be just what I needed. It allows me to cut through cherry like it was butter. I highly recommend if you are ripping hardwood with a underpowered table saw.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freud LU87r010 thin kerf rip blade, November 1, 2005

This review is from: Freud LU87R010 10-Inch 24-Tooth FTG Thin Kerf Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
This blade exceeded my expectations. I installed it for ripping long boards of 1" thick hard maple on an underpowered saw - as an alternative to buying a more powerful one. I watched as the blade ripped through lumber with incredible ease, no burn-marks and no hesitation. Ripping was faster and cleaner than I was ever able to do with the same saw before with a new conventional blade. The kerf is really thin, and as it rips through the wood, the teeth geometry produce a fine stream of continuous wood shavings, like a tangle of fine wire, an indication of high efficiency, no dust, just a mass of fine woolen wood fiber. It reminded me of a well honed hand-plane. An excellent blade at a bargain price, my next blade will be exactly the same as this one. Oh, one more thing, I also noticed that, for some reason, the noise level is lower, possibly because the teeth do not protrude from the disc surface of the blade as you would see in a conventional carbide blade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Table Saw Blade, August 29, 2007
This review is from: Freud LU87R010 10-Inch 24-Tooth FTG Thin Kerf Ripping Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating (Tools & Home Improvement)
I use this blade to rip 2"+ thick hardwood. I own 8 of these and rotate them out to be sharpened. This Sunday I used this blade to go through 5500 ft of hardwood ranging between 2" and 2 1/4" in one day. I decided at the end of the day that it should be sharpened before I used it again. The blade does start to follow the grain at high feed speeds of over 60 ft/min, but it creates very good cuts at slightly lower feed speeds. This blade would be great for anyone who needs to cleanly rip wood under 2" thick.

This blade was made for underpowered saws, but I torture it using a 5 HP Delta cabinet saw. Like I said, I have 8 of these and they can be sharpened many times because of the size of the carbide teeth on the blade. I have ripped thousands of feet of hardwood with this model of blade. I have tried many blades before, but this is the best blade I have found for the price.

Only a genius could keep track of all the Freud blades and only the rich could own them all. Good marketing or just confusing, I don't know, but they offer a blade for every task and there are a lot of tasks.

Ripping is a common chore and most of us do not own the 220 v saws that are really needed to do this comfortably. I had always used a quality combination blade on my underpowered table saw, but really was not happy with the speed of the cuts or the burning of the maple I use.

I decided to give this blade a try. I chose this blade over the "glue line" rip that Freud offers because I did not want to compromise the cutting speed at all and I figured the glue line version might be more like a combo blade.

Couldn't be more pleased. This blade just slips through maple rips very easily with no burning or binding at all and the cuts are very good. It would be interesting to test this and the glue-line blade side by side to see what the difference really is. I was lazy and used it for non-critical cross cuts and it wasn't bad at all.

This is a very useful blade that is not too expensive and I really think it belongs on most consumer level saws.
